You still missed the substantive rebuttal (though it is clear why you'd avoid addressing it head on, like a man...), so here it is again. Another chance to drop the fuscia tutu and put your "biggy boy" pants back on:

The cynical defeatist drivel offered up by Nate B. in fact deserves but to be ignored by actual thinking Americans, not applauded like some particularly prescient precept.

"I can’t think of a single politician so thoroughly loathed by the MSM, and whose image is so set at this point in the presidential election season. If Palin runs, in order to win she has to overcome a media blockade unlike any other."

Ahem. Ummmm, the Lamestream Misleadia has spent the last three years attempting to knock her off her pins with every imaginable onslaught available, tired to shut her up and convince America that she's already all washed up.

I guess you haven't noticed, but...

...they failed. Badly. Monstrously. Indelibly. Forever. Sarah Palin is better known and better liked today than when they started their assault on her all those years ago. Her Facebook fan base has tripled over the last two years. Her volunteer ground support has organized ready-to-launch teams of "get out the voter" commandos in virtually every State in the Union, basically as a response to the FAILED media attempts to destroy her.

Anyone who at this point thinks they can effectively point to the media's repeatedly ineffective assassinations of Palin as a reason why she cannot win is simply and quite obviously as blind to the truth as they'd like to paint us as being.

In fact... they, like the media, are just whistling past the graveyard. Make no mistake.

Sarah Palin is coming, and the TEA Party is coming with her.

I disagree only the fringe dyed in wool left would make such unfounded statements about GWB and actually mean it. The large part of the justifiable remorse towards GWB is due to the end result(s) and what he left behind. Which is primarily two wars with no resolution in sight and stinking TARP bomb.

Exactly! The other campaigns wishes they had her ability and they don’t. Palin has advantages like no other like if she’s standing on the sidewalk people will come to her in droves whether they like her or not and that’s where she can sell herself.

Apples and oranges, Mike. I did not say that Sarah would be painted as a racist by the media or even a bomb thrower. The truth is they have painted her as a ditz and it has hurt her in the polls. Take a look here:

Real Clear Politics

As to how Goldwater appeared in person, I can only tell you that I was there. Were you?

Please tell me what the Bachmann gaffes are that were so disconcerting...

But on a more serious note, isn’t the social conditioning instilled against conservative thought amazing? Garbage can come out of the mouths of libs all day and they’re not ridiculed nor shamed over their absurd nonsense because conservatives are often times far too polite to be that rude.

But some on the right have taken upon this ‘group think’ where as they’re concerned over what they say due to fear of some innocuous social rejection?. From who?

Well anyways, I salute the 57 states of America....

She hasn’t got a chance. She quit in Alaska. “If she thinks that was to tough wait til she becomes president”. That is all they have to say once she officially gets into the race.

Sarah quit because the libs were costing us unnecessary expenses by being sleazy. BOzo ought to quit for costing us unnecessary expenses and for being sleazy.

Nathan --

In all earnestness and good faith.

Put your keen analytical skills to the following question: I haven't been able to come up with even the ghost of an answer.

Why is Sarah Palin the ONLY candidate against whom you have never heard a *whiff* of the Race Card being played?

Something of importance there; wish I could get to the bottom of it.

Cheers!

I as you know am a big palin supporter. But he’s wrong. The average lib or apolitical American considers her a joke. They learned this on tv. Her name is spoken in a scornful tone. That ain’t nothing. She truly has a very hard road ahead. The media did not destroy Sarah, true. But they did successfully destroy her image in the minds of many americAns.

The work that should not be denied is her strategy to reach those very people. Her advantage : the media perception created of her is absolutely a lie. Americans hate to be fooled. They were fooled by the glory of the Obamacle. Sarah has to o ercome. She can. But let’s not pretend it will be easy.

I agree with what you are saying - it will be a hard hard road to change the minds of those who think she's an idiot, a quitter, a lightweight, or the so-called conservatives who figure there is no way she can win so better to vote for someone else. The media has done a masterful and despicable job of destroying her image, if not her. I know people who say they hate her but they really have no idea of the truth. The problem with the MSM is that it is mainstream when it should be totally discredited

The powerful do not want the people to take our country back because they're not done wiping out our bank and retirement accounts and turning us into obedient serfs.

I hope that whomever ends up being the two frontrunners of the GOP do not trash each other so severely that the nominee can’t recover in time to trounce obama. They’ve got to come to an agreement to concentrate on what will win for the party. While I’m not the biggest fan of the GOP, they sure as heck are better than the dems. At this point I believe Perry will be nominated. If so I would like to see either Palin or Bachmann as his Veep.

All this is meaningless if she isn’t running. And at the moment she isn’t, nor has she said anything to indicate otherwise.

If she, however, does decide to run... then this article has merit.

That’s what a campaign is for! You selling yourself and this time she doesn’t have the inept McCain campaign messing things up! Btw in your other post you claim that we can’t afford to deal with Palin issues compared to Bachmann or Perry; Sarah is not a gaffe machine like Bachmann nor does Sarah makes numerous loose statements like Bachmann as well that can be brought up- the media already used every last bullet left against Sarah, even acussing her of murder and she’s still standing, and as afar as Perry, the media will try to make him a W. Bush clone (not saying they are right) but whoever is the nominee is going to face one obstacle or another

Karl Rove himself conducted an interview on CNN (?) Which I saw in which he stated that the biggest mistake of the Bush presidency was the failure to contest the lie, "Bush lied people died."

You are looking at the historical legacy of the Bush presidency and in this respect you might well be right. Bush himself thought that would be so and that is why he instructed Karl Rove not to go to war on the issue because the administration wanted emphasis put elsewhere. Rove thought that the administration never fully recovered from this slander. The elections of 2006 and 2008 seem to bear him out.

The point and relevance to the Sarah Palin candidacy is that it does not matter how history views her, it matters how 50% plus one of the electorate view her on election day. As of today her polls are not robust. ( See Real Clear Politics cited in the previous post of mine in this thread.)

She's had 3 years to correct the impression generated by Katie Couric and Tina Fey and she has not done so. She has not entered the fray to prove that she could do so. In fact, she has withdrawn from the fray and from elected office.

For the record here is my assessment of Sarah Palin made before, repeat before, the 2008 election:

"You know I have spent considerable time in Alaska and much of it in Wasilla. I can well understand how somebody with Sarah Palin's personality and energy could rise to become governor of that state by virtue of her merit. In Alaska, at least in the Wasilla area, everybody knows everybody else and you better be a standup guy. You can be as eccentric as an out- house rat, but you better be a straight shooter and you better not put on no airs.

These down-home virtues are what is needed but not what is prized in Washington. I believe Sarah Palin is up against two psychological forces which she must overcome.

The first is a phenomenon applied to all Republican candidates that I can remember since Eisenhower. I can remember being told quite earnestly that the man who commanded the biggest, most complicated, and most successful amphibious operation in history was really quite stupid. Every succeeding Republican president since Eisenhower (excepting Nixon who was evil) was stupid. This calumny is tried on against every Republican candidate who comes along. We saw what happened to Dan Quayle. Can you recall how stupid Ronald Reagan was? Bedtime for Bozo? George Bush Sr. was out of touch and stupid, although his wife was conceded to be house smart in a grandmotherly sort of way. We all know her son is a moron. Sarah Palin, like Dan Quayle, was left out there exposed, unprepared and unsupported and no one should be surprised that the result was the same. So when Palin drops her gs and says "aw shucks," that is all the Eastern establishment needed to hear to match up the person with the holes in the template.

Of course, President Kennedy was in near genius who sped read at an amazing clip. We found out later that this was a lie and that his Pulitzer prize-winning book was ghostwritten. We now know that he must have been in a thick drug-induced cloud for much of his tenure in the Oval Office. Do you remember being told how intuitive Bill Clinton was and how he could summarize an expert's presentation better than the expert? Al Gore was a genius who was too good for the schools he flunked out of. And Barak Obama, well one can only express astonishment that his coming was not announced by John the Baptist.

And this messianic allusion brings me to the main problem which Sarah Palin confronts in structuring her image. It is the Billy Budd effect. If you recall your Melville, you will know that Billy Budd was a figure of good whose very presence antagonized the first mate who persecuted Billy Budd unmercifully. The mate was driven to do this unconsciously because the mate was a figure of evil. The mate had his demons. So it is with the left in America today, they are driven to a visceral hatred of Sarah Palin because she is the 21st century figure of Billy Budd. Sarah Palin committed an unforgivable affront, she knowingly carried a Mongoloid to term. This cannot be forgiven. This is the ultimate reproach to the entire belief system of the left. Sarah Palin need not even open her mouth and she is hated with a cold and unremitting fury.

This is why I said that the left hates Sarah Palin not for what she says or how she appears on television but for who she is. The left must react as evil always reacts in the presence of good. Like the second mate, they must persecute Sarah Palin and they do not even know why.

But Sarah Palin ought to know why if she is going to be able to cope with a brick bats that will come her way. She must know that she can never charm these people. The more she tries the more they will hate her. She must focus on her target, the conservative base which she will keep so long as she is faithful and the independent middle which is persuadable if she can appear to be a normal and a wholesome person.

" ...

Further for the record, my opinion of her character has not varied. I speak only as an armchair pundit about her electability, not her virtues.

Maybe because her husband is legally Inuit?

That would make her children partially Native American or Eskimo, or whatever and makes it a little difficult to trump her with the race card. But n.b. that did not stop the media from playing the race card against Sen. Phil Gramm and his wife was Chinese.

What about Mitch McConnell?

So I gather two main points from your post every Republican since Eisenhower is portrayed as stupid. (This is true)

Sarah Palin needs to overcome this portrayal.

Well this is not an insurmountable feat. Since I suppose if it were, Eisenhower and every Republican candidate since him would have never been elected then... If the vast majority of voters bought into this garbage.

The truth is nobody really knows. We have hope and high expectations. One thing is certain, conservatism wouldn't be where it is today without Sarah Palin's leadership.

At the very minimum she will energize the base and pressure the 2012 GOP field further to the right. Whether she wins the nomination, or not, she will put her imprint on it. And, yes, she has as much of a chance to win it as any of leading candidates.
