Public Policy Polling surveyed three states over the weekend, including what is certain to be the highly contested battleground state of North Carolina. While full results have not been released, PPP teased those results on Twitter on Monday afternoon; what they found was surprising. In all three states, businessman Herman Cain led among GOP primary voters with Newt Gingrich coming in second in North Carolina.

I don't care if it is PPP.

(1) You know the left's heads will explode if any poll comes out showing Herman Cain on top of the GOP.

(2) You know the GOP establishment's heads will explode if any poll shows Newt Gingrich ahead of Romney. Actually, Newt isn't a surprise given it's N. Carolina. Romney has zero drawing power in the south.

But, this “racism” flap will hurt Cain! Can’t can’t win! Romeny is the front runner...but, but, but...

I would prefer to see Newt as POTUS and Cain as VP.

Killer and respectful combination.

I actually think they would make a fabulous ticket. Newt has baggage but is by far the most composed at the debates and certainly has the political background to support Cain’s business acumen.

If Cain can take some lessons from Newt on being Media Savvy, he will be unstoppable.

The truth is this race is now wide open.

Romney has an upper limit (my guess is 35%, but it could be LOWER, but not higher).

The rest of the voters just haven’t made up their mind (other than they don’t want Romney).

LOL, how soon people forget. Newt was left for dead a few months ago after he threw virtually every House Republican under the bus by calling Ryan's Budget right wing social engineering.

Goes to show, today's hero is tomorrow's goat. If your willing to stay in the game you can reverse almost any blunder and be loved again by the public. In that sense, Clinton had it right.

I heard somewhere that Newt has promised to marry everyone who votes for him.

Go Newt! Is it possible he could end up “last man standing?”

“If Cain can take some lessons from Newt on being Media Savvy, he will be unstoppable.”

I’m chuckling because I remember early on when Newt’s campaign was almost left for dead because of comments he made about Ryan’s plan.

You have to learn from your mistakes and move on. If you keep making the same mistakes again and again, you won’t get anywhere.

Look at it from a conservative/tea-partier perspective:

Romney is flawed. RomneyCare and dull in a debate.

Perry is flawed. Immigration and Gardasil stances, and has done lousy in debates.

Christy is flawed. Soft on immigration, believer in global warming, and has drug himself into a sharia law controversy. Who knows how he’ll do in a debate.

If you’re going to support a flawed candidate, why not support someone that (1) has been the most impressive in the debates, and (2) at least in the past has been willing to go the distance pushing conservative issues. That would be Newt.

In the nobody’s perfect/everyone’s flawed race of these 4, Newt kind of stands out as the best choice.

None of these candidates are perfect, but I’m on the Newt bandwagon this week as well. Never been on the Cain wagon and even less now.

The truth is this race is now wide open. Romney has an upper limit . . .

I agree. People simply don't want Romney, and they flock to the "not Romney" leader. Romney was rejected in 2008, and he's being rejected again. If Mitt gets the nomination, I worry - that could give Obama a second term, or a successor who would build on Obama's most destructive big government policies. I will not vote for Romney, and I suspect he genuinely can't win unless he gets the less hate-filled liberals who still want socialism but aren't as malignant about it as the true Obama voters.

“At the very least, Newt has an actual plan.”

Perry shows up late to the game with no plan and says “Look at what I’ve done in Texas!” And we see all these illegals and say “No thanks!”
