I have been thinking the exact same thing - as have millions of other Americans.
I think if Romney’s the nominee the chances are good that he would come in third in November. And that’s without even knowing who the other person he would run against could be.
This unpleasant thought has also been nagging at me: if the Republican establishment is so tone-deaf to force Romney on the electorate (and the people who should be the party’s natural supporters), then they don’t deserve to win, or govern. Some even suggest that they don’t want to win, but just hold on to their own little feifdoms.
As for Romney: In my experience, if a person stands for something, he may win or he may lose. But if someone is perceived as playing it safe and not taking a chance, or not having convictions beyond his own desire to win, then he’s already given up much of his chance.
I have posted this to the 50 state republican committees. Some are friendly, some are not. I don’t know who/how else can repair the Republican Party in time.
