Obama Outclassed by GOP Nonentity
The Atlantic ^ | October 4, 2012 | Clive Crook, senior editor

Well. So much for "a Biden-class knack for sounding stupid," as I remarked about Romney a few hours ago. He won the first debate going away. You have to wonder, if Romney's such a weak candidate, as I have long maintained, what does that make Obama?

No attempted zingers, contrary to forecasts, which was wise on the challenger's part. (Or perhaps there were some, only so lame they escaped detection. Trickle-down government. Maybe that was a zinger.) His joke about having five sons and being accustomed to hearing endless repetition of the same bogus claim was funny (don't you think?) and if it was rehearsed didn't seem so. Who knew that Romney was capable of gentle wit? He seemed, despite everything, relaxed, confident, and above all in charge. He gave the impression of having the facts at his command. Often enough that was a false impression, but Obama never came close to showing it. The president was stammering and hesitant, and frequently looked out of his depth. Romney's performance wasn't brilliant, just good, but that made it brilliant relative to expectations. The greater shock, amplifying Romney's success, was that Obama was so bad.

Maybe this is what four years of being surrounded by sycophants does for you.

Again and again, he missed open goals. He let Romney say that he, Romney, would take better care of entitlements than Obama would. Incredible. He watched as his attack on Romney's tax proposal kept bouncing off, until he looked feeble for repeating it...

The line about his five “boys” was even better the 2nd 3rd and 4th time around. Obama does not look pleased being compared to his “boys.”

Are there no mirrors where you work? When you get to one, you will likely find one more.

Don’t worry Clive, Axelrod will make the unemployment go to below 8% today. You’ll feel better about your messiah.

So the Eurofags are mad at Obama, too? This is so much fun to watch.

I have ten children - I thought the line was very amusing. I've been known to say, "That doesn't even sound like YOU believe it any more."

Well, here’s at least one leftist who placed the blame where it squarely belongs.

All these years of relying on TOTUS has taken its toll. Obama no longer has the ability or confidence to think on his feet and voice ideas in his own words. All he can do is read TOTUS or deliver a canned stump speech. When he tries to go off topic, he gets in trouble. He was clearly scared to death of saying something outlandish, so he just clammed up.

His head must be spinning with all the advice (solicited and unsolicited) on how to proceed. Most of it advocates for him to be more energetic, passionate, and aggressive. If he remains weak and tentative, that may signal that his internal numbers are either really bad (he’s given up) or really good (he can afford to play it safe).

If he comes out forcefully next time, then it would signal that it’s a very close race and he has to take risks. But he doesn’t do forceful very well. Instead, he appears arrogant, demeaning, and angry.

He is on defense - a place he has probably never been in his entire life.

We’ll be able to learn a lot from the state of this race by how he plays the next debate - a town hall.

I am willing to bet that in the next debates, moderators will consistently interrupt and interfere with Romney's efforts to speak. “O” will be pandered to like never before and Mitt will have to debate both “O” and the moderators.

Everything the MSM CAN do to muzzle and discredit Romney, they WILL do.

I'll bet they feel as if they have to make up for the fist debate. "O" was so bad. It illustrated what "O" in fact IS, without a compromised and biased media running interferrence for him. "O" is an empty suit who has been bought and paid for by people so stupid and out of touch with REAL America that they couldn't even select a more credible and effective mouthpiece capable of at least SOME self-efficacy and who wouldn't make them look STUPID. It was pathetic.

I predict that he will have a court release the embarrassing details of Romney's sealed divorce records like he usually does when he gets into electoral trouble...

Oh, crap, there aren't any this time. Time to go to plan C.

No twins - the closest two are 17 months apart.
