The Lone Hispanic Ultra Conservative – Ted Cruz
VOXXI ^ | October 9, 2014 | Grace Flores-Hughes

Posted on 10/09/2014 6:56:57 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

When Ted Cruz was first elected to the United States Senate in 2012, practically all of America’s media outlets went gaga over him.

We quickly learned about the man’s great intellect, having memorized the entire U.S. Constitution which added to his already stellar Ivy League academic performance. That was then, this is now. Today, the Ted Cruz that the country came to admire has evolved into one of the most ultra conservative voices in America. His alignment with conservative causes and organizations has propelled him to national fame.

He’s the darling of conservative groups from Tea Party activists to political active evangelicals. Last week, he addressed the Values Voter Summit where he came first in the summit’s straw poll for president in 2016 for the second consecutive year.

No doubt, the Republican Party is suffering from an “identity crisis.” Is it the party of Lincoln, or the party of Reaganomics, or is the party of conservatives or moderates or centrists? One group pulls its agenda one way; while the other pulls it another and never the two opposing forces shall meet. Yet, conservatives in today’s world think they can actually promote a person such as Ted Cruz to advance their way of thinking especially within the Hispanic community.

But Ted Cruz for all of his Cuban American upbringing isn’t exactly going out of his way to bring the Hispanic community along, preferring instead to court the mostly White conservatives of this country. And that may be just as well since the Hispanic community overall doesn’t much care for Cruz’s stance on immigration reform....

My wife and her parents are Cuban and they make me look like a smelly hippie . Considering I am to the right of Reagan, that is saying a lot

That’s what I thought. Cubans and many established Hispanics are quite conservative, if the ‘pubs would reach out with issues such as supporting individual and small business success and family.

Something a little interesting happened today. I was going to the door to let the cat out, and this pretty young woman had just put a Republican flyer on my door and was leaving. She turned around and came up on the porch and asked if I wanted to sign up for early voting.

I wish I could recall the conversation word for word but I can't. I asked her where she lived. New Mexico. Oh, the Republicans must have hired you. Well, she is pro life but likes some things about the Democrats. Mentioned she was working for Joni Ernst.

I didn't get everything in about that but she is the Republican opposition to incumbent Bruce Braley. On talk radio there was something about he sent a letter to Lois Lerner to sic the IRS on a name I didn't get, said he'd put the letter up on his website (a guest). I can call and find out more about that.

What I didn't mention is that I don't know if it is possible to call Joni Ernst back to active duty. Michelle came to Iowa to campaign for Braley a week or two ago. Joni has been polling ahead. I wouldn't put it past them to make a move like that.

So the young girl got me all signed up for absentee which saved me from having to call and ask. She remarked that it is so green here. It was beautiful today.

Next stop is Des Moines for her.

This is a left-wing publication that is published, primarily, to get Latinos to vote for liberal Democrats. Why would you want to post this crap here? Just curious.

....she is the Republican opposition to incumbent Bruce Braley.

There is no incumbent running in this Senate Race. Braley is a Congressman but this seat is currently held by Tom Harkin.

On talk radio there was something about he sent a letter to Lois Lerner to sic the IRS on a name I didn't get, said he'd put the letter up on his website (a guest). I can call and find out more about that.

PLEASE TRY TO FIND OUT THAT WEBSITE. And, if you do, please publish it here. That would sink Bruce Braley in a heart beat.

I do have a tendency to get things garbled; I'll have to see what the situation is, Congressman is important but Senate is critical.

Joni caused a local stir when she said Iraq had had WMD and transferred to Syria; I happen to believe the same but no proof, usually blocked on the newspaper site because I won't pay the fee but I get days of freebies anyway. Locals are mostly mean Dems, I didn't feel like tangling with them, so I thought she was dead in the water but Iowans seem to really like her. And she hasn't made that mistake again.

I called local talk radio to try to get an answer to your question for my sake as well. Two men are subbing for the regular who will be off until Tuesday.

But I described it was earier in the week, what I did remember about that call or conversation, they didn't remember it but questioned the authenticity of such a letter and felt that if it was real it was too late in the campaign; they would have gotten it out there earlier. Not if it came to light recently through Congressional investigation. Then someone called in and said tell (my name) and some crack about the Democrats, nothing substantive, will keep listening just in case.

Then I wrote an email to the regular talk show host and we will have to wait and see if he answers. If he does, I'll relay whatever I find out. It was a male, seemed like one syllable last name, didn't get it, have googled all over, also the hosts blog on FB and station on FB, nothing, he could have been a political guest or a caller. If I hear or see such a name in political context and Iowa, etc., I can call him myself.

Here is a document I found the day I answered you. It's .pdf and I didn't scroll far enough down to find a facsimile of a letter on Congressional stationery signed by Peter Welch and Bruce Braley an a whole bunch more asking that the IRS investigate 501c(4) social organizations to determine if they are improperly engaged in political campaign activity. I believe Joni Ernst already hit him with this one.

They also targeted Senator Grassley for an IRS audit; don't know if Braley was an instigator of that. Grassley is a no-nonsense kind of a guy.

Later in 2013 Braley wrote Obama urging him to ask for the resignation of Lois Lerner.

I sense that this was not the letter I heard about on talk radio last week, will await an email response, wait and see if such a letter even exists.

I get it. Ernst and Braley are competing for Thomas Harkin's vacated Senate seat. Ernst is a state senator and I think Braley is a congressman.
