With a Mexican drug lord on the loose from prison and apparently tweeting threats to Republican presidential contender Donald Trump rival Republican and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz said Tuesday that Trump deserves protection from the Secret Service.
On Fox News On the Record, host Greta Van Susteren noted then-Sen. Barack Obama received early Secret Service protection because of the number and credibility of threats against a man running to be the first black president. She asked if Trump should get the same attention.
Of course he should, Cruz said. Listen, these drug cartels are incredibly dangerous. They are transnational criminal operations. They are murderers, they are thugs In Texas we deal with this all the time. Weve got 1,200 miles of border with Mexico and we see the ravages of these violent, murdering drug cartels.
Assuming the threats to Trump are real, Cruz said, Absolutely he should get protection.
Elsewhere in the interiew, Cruz pulled few punches while discussing sanctuary cities, saying what those paying attention to politics in America already know, that the Democratic Party supports illegal immigration.
Appearing Tuesday on Fox News On the Record, the Texas senator told host Greta Van Susteren that sanctuary cities have been a persistent problem in the Lone Star State because Democrat mayors decline to enforce the law.
It varies in terms of how brazen it is, its not always as brazen as San Francisco is, Cruz stated. But its a problem when you have cities that are in the control of the Democrats and dont want to follow the law.
Calling a spade a spade, Cruz responded with the bitter truth when Van Susteren tried to turn the tables by saying illegal immigration is a federal issue but Congress does not pass laws to address it.
Its because the Democratic Party supports illegal immigration, he said. They dont even call it illegal immigration. Theyve come up with this undocumented term.
Two guys with brains, at least.
Messrs. Cruz and Trump would make for a formidable ticket.
point of information:
Obama provides Iranian-born Valerie Jarret with Secret Service protection.
Not just no, Heck no! They’d just get in the way of his personal security detail, who are likely far more competent and deadly.
“Two guys with brains, at least.”
Right. But sometimes that’s all it takes.
And would those agents protect Trump so much or more serve as the eyes and ears of Obama and company?
No. No. No....Only nominated candidates get secret service. Trump just bragged he was worth 10 billion today as a matter of fact. If he wants protection, he can pay for it himself. Cruz is is a nosy body.....why is he getting himself caught up in Trumps problems. So now Trump needs a cheerleader. Well perhaps they can go on a reality show together and do a Laurel and Hardy routine. This is getting ridiculous.
Mr. Obama got it waaaaaay before he was nominated. You can read, right?
I tend to think Trump will keep his own security people.....why have “infiltrators”?
Did the agents protecting Obama months before he was nominated report back to Bush & Cheney?
If.
Yes.
Yeah, Cruz should make that point on the floor of the senate.
The Jarret woman is creepy, and like her boss, what little we know about her is awful.
Why isn’t our president speaking out against this obvious international criminal threat to our democratic processes?
This threat proves that Trump is 100% correct regarding the dangerous situation on our unsecure border!
I don’t give a damn. If you want Obama for a third term that is your business. We don’t follow why the Democrats do. We are supposed to lead and follow the law.
Cruz/Trump good—so is Trump/Cruz. They will be a great como—almost a co-president.
Bush was a Democrat? That is who gave Obama protection, genius.
....”Cruz is is a nosy body.....why is he getting himself caught up in Trumps problems”....
You can’t really mean that? Cruz is good for Trump and could use some advice navigating the circuit he’s on....Trumps telling it like it as Cruz is...so it’s a good mix. Not uncommon candidates play tag in their running.
Great word picture, cc.
