Ted Cruz says Donald Trump can't win, nation awaits inevitable angry response
The Examiner ^ | October 9, 2015 | Mark Whittington, Houston Ted Cruz Examiner

Politico noted on Friday that Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, a candidate for president of the United States, has said the first thing that has come out of his mouth that could be construed to be remotely negative about Donald Trump. Cruz stated in an interview that will run Sunday on WABC that he does not think that Trump will win the Republican nomination and that most of the mercurial businessman’s voters will gravitate to the man from Texas. The statement was so mild and obvious that if said about anyone else it would not be news. Indeed, a Trump spokesperson simply begged to disagree on Twitter.

But, as Hot Air reminded us, Donald Trump is no ordinary candidate. He has both a volcanic temper and a thin skin that has manifested many times in incendiary attacks on opponents and members of the media. The nation is now hushed, awaiting the explosion. Will Trump call Cruz a “loser” and will he go full bore birther on him?

To be sure, Cruz sweetened his observation with praise....

A typical “progressive” “Lets you and him fight” tactic.

Ted, you can’t even break double digits and I love your ideals but your speaking style creeps people out, not me, but a lot of people.

Can anyone lead us to a link where these authors referred to the incumbent’s thin skin?

I think you are delusional. In combination with bitterness, self-deception is a killer. I hope you can find help.

Of course Cruz hopes to win the nomination and if he really believes he’ll win then, ipso facto, he believes Trump will not win the nomination. The news isn’t so much that he believes, or claims to believe this, but the blunt language he used to express this thought rather than expressing it in more diplomatic language. It means that the rules of engagement between he and Trump have just changed to a more confrontational, albeit still civil, tone. It also means he may not be able to count on Trump not attacking him.

I’m sure Trump would have no problem going to war with Cruz. As Trump said, half jokingly, the other day, he was almost sorry that Carson apologized for the comments he made regarding Trump’s religious belief a few weeks ago, because he was looking forward to going on the attack against him.

I think you are wrong. Senator Cruz has a legitimate chance.

Cruz has a far greater chance of getting steamrollered by the status quo than Trump.

That is genuinely hilarious! Ted Cruz does not get “steamrollered”. By anyone or anything.

To do what needs to be done the candidate needs a network outside of the professional political class.

But the president is part of the political class! Perhaps you could distinguish what is bath water and what is the baby. IMO- to do what need to be done the candidate needs a commitment to the constitution and conservative principles.

Cruz has a far greater chance of getting steamrollered by the status quo than Trump.

Cruz has a far greater chance of restoring the nation to the constitution and exposing the corrupt status quo than Trump.

A Trump spokesman gave reply to Cruz already. In the mildest of terms. Something like, “We disagree”. It was short, very mild and to the point with no frills.

Cruz poll numbers have remained low, haven’t really grown. A true candidate of the religious conservative base, but lacks ability to draw others in party. Certainly won’t get any democrat crossover votes, infact dems will probably show up to vote to keep him from winning the general election. I think they would be afraid of a Cruz administration.

Watch Trumps tax plan presser then tell me what other candidate is using the phrase “corperate inversion”.

No other candidate understands that better than Trump because none have been on the business side of it.

No other candidate has the business experience Trump has.

Romney was Presidential. So was McCain. Is that really what you’re looking for? Who cares if he talks about the cover of People magazine? Is that really what matters to you regarding our next President? How about judging Trump on what he would do for the country as President? No candidate in the past 50 years has ever put forth such bold policies to tackle our immigration problems or our trade deficits. Do you disagree with his policies on these issues or other issues or do you just think we should discount them because he talked about his picture on the cover of People?

I suspect you are correct, no other candidate has donated to the Clintons and supported democrats in order to buy favors. I cannot say how many candidates accepted graft, but no other was offering it up like Trump.

Amen. The reality-show crowd rivals the low-information crowd - and overlap quite a bit. A lot more of both around here lately.

Where are Cruz’s campaign contributions coming from?

Trump says it all the time...he’s going to be the nominee. All Cruz has to say is “It would be great if Trump were and I would support him...but I’m going to be the nominee and I hope he’ll support me.”
