Ted Cruz says Donald Trump can't win, nation awaits inevitable angry response
The Examiner ^ | October 9, 2015 | Mark Whittington, Houston Ted Cruz Examiner

Politico noted on Friday that Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, a candidate for president of the United States, has said the first thing that has come out of his mouth that could be construed to be remotely negative about Donald Trump. Cruz stated in an interview that will run Sunday on WABC that he does not think that Trump will win the Republican nomination and that most of the mercurial businessman’s voters will gravitate to the man from Texas. The statement was so mild and obvious that if said about anyone else it would not be news. Indeed, a Trump spokesperson simply begged to disagree on Twitter.

But, as Hot Air reminded us, Donald Trump is no ordinary candidate. He has both a volcanic temper and a thin skin that has manifested many times in incendiary attacks on opponents and members of the media. The nation is now hushed, awaiting the explosion. Will Trump call Cruz a “loser” and will he go full bore birther on him?

To be sure, Cruz sweetened his observation with praise....

I think it shows a certain levity and humanness that is generally lacking with our presidential candidates. Mitt Romney was straight out of central casting with regard to how a president should act but he couldn’t close the deal as people never saw the human side of him.

Cruz as anything but the next president would be a sorry waste of the greatest talent in politics since Reagan.

And there is no logical reason to think he will not succeed.

Another concern troll!

Would you mind terribly if we sold your contract to DU?

We already have your position filled.

“I am not all that interested in a more effective corruption, but in the elimination of it.”

That was what Trump was doing, clearing the decks so he could run his business. He kept them out of his way. Substitute politicians for mafia and you can see what his goal was — warding off a shake-down. Price of doing business on that level.

Cruz is in second place in total commitment, but in first place in grass roots contributions.

Ted’s path to the White House is with Donald Trump, as Trump’s VP.

They would make a terrific team.

We will need a forceful presence and tremendous executive ability in the next President. Out of the 15 Republicans running, only Trump fits that bill.

Right now, Ted has to make sure the Freedom Caucus does not implode, and that a conservative rises to the House Speaker position.

Yes, Ted is a Senator, but he has been behind the push to get rid of the RINOs in the House leadership.

That would be a great accomplishment.

I’m not talking about debating abilities.

Trump is a man who is successful at business, and skilled in that area. Otherwise he’s no genius. His simplistic sentences prove that much.

The country doesn’t need a businessman at the helm anymore than it needs a neurosurgeon. What it needs is a solid Constitutional conservative with a brilliant intellect and a Christian background. Ted Cruz is all of those, and we, as conservatives, need to recognize the opportunity and get behind him.

Nobody will ride this election successfully with Trump.

Trump has negatives that are roughly double his positives. He simply has no chance of getting nominated, let alone elected.

Immigration—check.

Second Amendent—check.

Tax Reform—check.

His positives totally outweigh his negatives. And he is just getting started.

We wanted a fighter, well we finally got one.

He is a man of ability and he is paying his own way.

If he continues to lead and doesn’t get nominated, then that is an indictment of the GOP, not Donald Trump.

Nice straw man you have there.

I didn’t say Trump isn’t intelligent; I said Cruz is much more so. That’s just a simple fact. Alan Dershowitz said that Cruz was among the absolute most brilliant of the 10,000 students he taught during his 50 years at Harvard.

Trump’s intelligence is no more “unique” than most others’, and is part of the personality myth that has inexplicably grown up around him.

Don’t get me wrong-—brains aren’t everything. As I posted earlier, Cruz is also a solid Christian and a Constitutional scholar. With everything that’s at stake right now, we need all of those qualities.

For every person that says that they would vote for Trump, there are two that say they absolutely will not.

He’s in worse shape than Jeb in that respect.

You know better than to use that false argument.

With the same numbers, I can prove that out of 15 candidates, Trump gets 1 out of 3, and the other 14 fourteen share the other two votes.

And that landscape will change radically when the bottom eight or nine candidates are gone.

I get that Trump is not your guy, but no one is setting the political stage like Trump.

No one else is making a commitment to build a wall on the southern border, get rid of the anchor baby interpretation of the 14th Amendment, and say that Hillary belongs in jail.

His positions are ones that conservatives here have been begging for, for years.

“Yes - He was spreading the cash around for favors so that he could get super- mega-ubber rich - gottcha!”

The “favors” was to stay out of his way.

This is tiresome, some of us just aren’t pure enough and high minded as you certainly are.

If you honestly think that Cruz, who voted for TPA and the Corker bill, and is now, very deceptively, lambasting both, is better....

I’ll give him a pass. I noticed Trump did also today. Could have been a misinterpretation.

Correct, I did say that but I’m not against him and I don’t believe him to be part of the establishment. What IS KNOWN is he is running under the GOP label, which is starting out as a minus for many voters*. So is TRUMP, but Trump has been on stage for a number of years and persons across the nation know more about him. Different set of circumstances. And, by the way sir, all the work you did to get Cruz elected to Texas senator would have gone for naught if persons in Texas (Like myself) had not voted for him in the primary and on into office.

*This is speaking for the general and not the primary elections.

Hope this clarifies the game for you. AND TEXAS BEAT OKLAHOMA TODAY. Hee Haw!!

LOL just found the secret to the new Smart TV and can now watch ALL of Trumps’ You Tube video’s on TV in a nice easy chair with the can of Dr. Pepper and the popcorn watching heads explode ‘wherever’

Do hope as an American it is permissible to have more than one favorite candidate for different reasons. Do not remember oh, the dark won banning US from that liberty.

Go Trump! Go Cruz!

Thank you for the reply, “Cupid” Good to meet another Cruz fan. We’ve a good many number here it seems; if truth be known many Trump fans as well. Make it a great weekend.

Give up!

People are not as stupid as you are wont to think they are.

More people see through Trump than are fooled by him.

“I don’t see Trump picking Cruz as a running mate”

I do. Trump's the outsider. He needs someone who knows the Washington ins and outs. Kind of like Bush and Cheney. And that would make Vice President Cruz the logical pick after 8 (or maybe only 4) years of Trump as president.
