Ted Cruz, staring at hundreds of thousands of dollars in negative advertisements against him in Iowa that show only signs of growing, is battling to keep pace there with his most aggressive push yet to maintain his momentum in the Hawkeye State.
On Wednesday, the day that a fourth and fifth independent group launched paid media campaigns attacking Cruz as out of touch with Iowa Republicans, Cruz's campaign sent word that he will launch a 36-county, six-day tour right after the new year, his most extensive trip of the state so far. Cruz is expected to spend much of January solidifying his lead in Iowa, where he has risen from the middle of the pack to front-runner status over the course of two months.
But that surge is also inviting scrutiny. Cruz returns to Iowa as five independent groups are stirring voters' doubts by spending about $600,000 against the Texas senator in direct mail, digital and radio advertisements and on television. Time to send a belated birthday present to the good senator.
See my tagline.
Who is trying to knock him out?
Huckabee and the ethanol boys, for starters.
“Who is trying to knock him out?”

Rubio and the Huckster for the most part. And since Huckleberry isn’t going anywhere he’s mostly just shilling for Rubio.
How long before the story breaks that Trump is secretly pumping money into these PACs and Huckabee’s camp as a means of attacking Cruz?
Becuase I have my suspicions.
We’ve just spent the last six months learning from both Jeb! and Hillary that large amounts of money and the advertisements they can buy can’t buy voter support.
Ted Cruz is a principled religious candidate whose base of support is principled religious Republicans, that is, those who listen primarily to God and their consciences and are therefore least amenable to the messages of slick political ads.
When it was announced that Jeb Bush was pouring tens of millions of dollars into an advertising blitz, no one expected the ads to lift him out of low single digits and they were right, so why should anyone expect the new anti-Cruz ads in Iowa to negatively affect Ted Cruz’s numbers?
That’s really disappointing about Huckabee; he comes across in the debates as all “I’m too principled to ever attack a fellow Republican” and then secretly does it with big bucks in private. What a snake! No wonder he and Rubio pair up so nicely.
