20 percent of Sanders supporters say they’d support Trump in the fall over Clinton.

If true, New York is in play.

We have a relative who grew up in the depression/wwII/FDR era. Never has voted republican. Every election she says how Bush, McCain, Romney are “crazy”. Defends Obama.

Last visit, politics and Trump comes up and I’m expecting her usual reaction. Instead, she floors me with “A lot of what he’s saying makes sense.”

It is very possible Trump has hit a chord.

I’m from New York, my family is still there, and I think NY for Trump is a done deal. NJ too.

People who think otherwise don’t understand this election.

Even if it’s close, it’s a victory for Trump, because Hillary has to spend time and money campaigning in NY.

And that bodes well for Trump who can spend his time in OH.

“She’s a New Yorker.”

No.

I am a New Yorker. Hillary is an out of towner.

I don’t know about New York, but he could carry PA, MI, NJ, FL, OH, VA and all the states Romney won for a big win.

Honestly, I kind of doubt it. New York and California are lost causes.

Finally you’ve managed to post a political thread that is factual, interesting, and not Cruz propaganda. :-)

New York is huge liberal.

Trump got 528,792 votes in the Primary.

Hillary got 1,057,347. That’s twice as many as Trump. It is more than Trump, Cruz and Kasich combined.

Bernie got 766,023.

Kasich got 218,796. Cruz got 126,984.

Republicans got 874,572 total.

Let’s say Trump gets 20% of Sanders’ voters and all Cruz and Kasich’s. Hillary gets Sanders’ other 80%.

Then it is Hillary with 1.67 M votes vs Donald with 1.02M.

Are there 650,000 independents to make up that gap?

Say Donald gets 50% of Sanders’ voters. That would be 1.44 M for Hillary, 1.26 M for Trump.

In the general there will be more voters total and more chance for Trump to gain with that group that did not vote in the primary.

But the numbers show what Trump is up against in New York.

If Hillary were confident she could beat Trump, she and the Dems wouldn’t try to collude with the GOPe to have them make sure Trump is not the R nominee. The only one she is really afraid of not being able to beat, is exactly Trump.

Here is some evidence:

Tech billionaires (major Dem donorsm Hillary supporters) plot with GOP leaders at exclusive island resort to stop Trump

Obama neat Romney in NY by 28 %. I think Trump makes incredible inroads and knocks the margin down to 18 - 19 %, which would be an amazing turnaround in just one election cycle.

Trump winning? That is farcical, going from - 28 to + 1 in one election cycle is unheard of. It’s neat to dream, but there has to be some math there.
