(CNN)Donald Trump's campaign is scrambling to ramp up its planning for the general election, including scraping together a list of potential vice presidential candidates, after Trump abruptly became the presumptive Republican nominee Tuesday night.

The Trump campaign, blindsided by rival Ted Cruz's sudden exit from the race, is now beginning internal deliberations about potential vice presidential candidates, two Trump campaign sources tell CNN.

Are you really this obtuse?

Palin has star power
Palin has been vetted
Palin was a Governor and State regulator

Think of Don’s VP as more of a valet or butler than a consigliere (similar to SlowJoe Biden).

Kasich is very popular in Ohio, a must win state. With that in the bag, they can carpet bomb Va and Fl.

Palin, no. God no.

I was hugely upset with Christie after his hug of Obama after the hurricane. However , I would except him.

Gov perry also a yes. He helps him with Texas.

Palin lacks the depth of knowledge Trump's key positions would require. She would be very good in supporting roles except VP is that. It's not a good fit, and I was a little concerned when she endorsed him, his association with her.

I appreciate what she has done, I still don't like to see her trashed, and I respect her as a person, but I hope Trump will tread very cautiously when it comes to her.

Palin needs to help get her family straightened out.
Then maybe run for office in Arizona.

Never Palin...it will be distracting ALL OVER again.

Much as I like Sarah Palin, I have to agree with you. The media's already chewed her up and spit her out. America may have Attention Deficit Disorder for most things, but for scornfully ridiculed politicians on late night talk shows? Long memories.....

I heard today that Trump said he might put Ben Carson on a committee to help pick a VP.

Game On.

Trumps confidence and fearlessness and Newt's confidence, fearlessness and experience achieving results has Liberals shaking in their boots. Why? Because they know both Trump and Newt are fearless. FEARLESS.

Being fearless because you love your country in front of the lying liberal media and democrats is what this country needs.

Or not so much.

:D

Palin is obviously on the list. Eastwood I hadn’t even considered until I saw his name on another list, and I would be very, very interested in considering this more.

Scarborough has been a very strong Trump supporter forever. I think he would be good, he would bring a lot of middle support, I just think he would be a very valuable asset.

Naïve or not. (I don’t think so, but it’s just me) I think those three are the strongest candidates I have seen.

I know Rob Postman. Very nice guy. Brilliant with economics. Stunning recall. But, he is a Bush NNOWacolyte. Donated 100,000 dollars to Thud Cochrane in the Mississippi runoff against McDaniel. He is HOPe all the way. I would never trust him in a Trump administration. It would be Reagan Bush again.

A candidate like Trump who has ridden a wave of support from Republican voters who find inside-the-Beltway @ssholes of both parties to be a repulsive lot shouldn't even think of picking someone like Newt Gingrich to be his VP.

This was the end of Newt Gingrich's political career right here:
