The New York Post said Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has narrowed down his list of potential running mates. The list includes Sessions, Alabama's junior Senator, as well as a retired general and a Washington lawmaker.

Sessions, the first Senator to endorse Trump, is advising him on foreign policy and immigration matters...

Agreed. Jeff Sessions will turn 70 this year. I’d rather see him tormenting liberals in the senate for the next twenty years or so.

If this election was about conservative principles, we would have chosen a conservative candidate.

Having failed in that, now I just want to win and hope for the best.

As much as I didn’t like him as a presidential candidate, Kasich makes a lot of sense. He’s very strong in Ohio, a state we have to win, he’s very moderate and dull, qualities that balance Trump in the minds of party moderates. He’s very strong on budget issues and, honestly, he’s “out of the way” of practically every major issue except to break ties in the Senate. Plus, the media has spent 9 months singing his praises so they absolutely can’t full-blown attack him the way they did Palin.

Plus, if he makes the deal at a time when Kasich delegates have to get on board, it will strengthen Trump’s hand at the convention.

The question would be whether the two can stand each other.

“I would love to see a Trump/Sessions ticket.”

That would also work. GO TRUMP GO

I do not disagree except to say that sometimes a pragmatic approach trumps altruism. Furthermore, I do not know where the definition of "conservatism" is defined, and by whom. Some say that Cruz is a pure conservative. Based on his positions and actions, I would have to disagree.

Regardless, the developments in store for us in the next year will be very interesting.

Cheers!

the one thing you want in a VP is the possibility of flipping a state; someone that would move votes in OH, WI, or PA, just for examples, is what he should be looking for.

In a typical election cycle.

Trump has completely rewritten the rules. Sessions on the ticket would be a winner....even in purple, and even some blue, states.

Corker entry in the dictionary should come with definition of: 1). Obama enabler, 2). Poster child of now defunct Uniparty, 3). Legislative power sellout to the executive branch of government.

I know you must be joking, but I’ll humor you...

Based EXACTLY on Trump’s tremendously YUGE support - including crossover support - all across the country, just as ONE reason/example.

I haven't read the article, and I'm in a bit of a rush.

Is Tom Cotton on this rumored short list?

I've got a feeling about this guy. He attended some sort of "never" exploration meetup way back, but I've never read/heard of anything beyond that.

He was also one of Bill Kristol's favored third-party guys, but he squashed talk of that very quickly.

Trump is damping down third party talk by hinting at names for his “short list.”

If Trump picks another old white man to be his running mate, then his will be portrayed anti-woman ticket that is trying to prevent America from electing its first woman president.

A question for you...of the 16 others who were initially in the GOP Primary chase, who is your idea of a conservative candidate?

In anticipation of an answer, why that choice?

I live and vote in Ohio. I am solidly behind Trump. If Kasich were on the ticket, I would be forced to hold my nose a bit.

I had to hold my nose in both 2008 and 2012. I don't want to have to do that in 2016!

What’s the point in taking one of the only only Senators that we and Trump can trust out of the Senate?

look, we picked a candidate that isn’t particularly conservative. I can live with that — if I could live with mittens, I can certainly live with this guy.

what is annoying, however, is people trying to rationalize the obvious fact that we picked a non-conservative candidate by trying to deny that conservatism exists, or, to the extent that it does exist, it’s undefinable.

no one on this forum would have dared give voice to that bizarre thought a year ago.

Trump is Conservative.
  1. Closing the border building a wall.
  2. Curbing or eliminating H-1B
  3. Retaliating in the trade war we are in with tariffs and better deals
  4. Closing our borders to Muslim immigration.
  5. Repealing EO's.

Sounds conservative to me.

Nothing to say bad about Jeff Sessions...but from a ‘gut’ level...I’m not feelin it..

I think DT needs someone like Sessions...but younger, more ‘pizzazz’... who can attack the left with an edge.

... Gingrichs name keeps coming around.... He does not debate... he “eviscerates”..I think he is too old also...but if we can combine the Sessions with the Gingrich and put them in the younger body I think that’s the man or woman we need.
