Cruz was a Canadian citizen only by Canadian law, which was irrelevant to his case. By
American law, the only relevant citizenship law, he was an American citizen from birth.

******************

Requirements for Senator is one thing and the requirement of Natural Born Citizen for
President is another. NBC is the hooker for Cruz in the Presidential qualifications.

The first nine presidents of the USA were born before the USA became a nation of its own.
However they were all born on the soil of what was to become the USA. Cruz can’t say
that since he was born in Canada.

How this all plays may or may not be determined until when and if Cruz ever becomes the
Presidential candidate or the President in fact.

And, no, if he was not familiar with Canadian citizenship law -- and he had no reason to be

You need to stop taking drugs, you are living in a fancy world.

You are trying to tell us the most "brilliant Harvard educated attorney" did not know that his birth in Canada to Canadian parents made him a Canadian citizen at birth? We know Ted Cruz's father was a Canadian citizen when Ted was born and there is good reason to think Ted's mom was too. Technically without a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA), and none has been presented, Ted Cruz is not even a citizen of these United States. He is a illegal immigrant. You would think a "brilliant" lawyer like Ted might be a little curious about his citizen status.

Agreed. Cruz' incidental Canadian citizenship was irrelevant to his qualifications for the Senate.

The NBC issue for the presidency has never been adjudicated, but would likely become an issue in the event of a Cruz nomination.

However, given the prior experience and judicial opinions regarding a.) the Chester A. Arthur presidency, b.) the George Romney candidacy and c.) the Ted Cruz candidacy-to-date, the odds would seem to favor Cruz being eligible.

Not to mention the Barack Obama presidency which, with the Chester A. Arthur presidency, totally negates the belief that NBC requires both parents be born in America.

Uh-huh. Yeah, all Cruz’s doing; you’re simply delusional!

Thanks for calling me a genius; it is true, but I tend not to brag! ;->~

Ahhh, the Chester A Arthur lie rears it's ugly head yet again.

Chester Alan Arthur was born October 5, 1829, in Fairfield, Vermont.[a][7] Arthur's mother, Malvina Stone, was born in Vermont, the daughter of George Washington Stone and Judith Stevens. Malvina's family was primarily of English descent, and her grandfather, Uriah Stone, fought in the Continental Army during the American Revolution.[7] His father, William Arthur, was born in Dreen, Cullybackey, County Antrim, in what is now Northern Ireland; he graduated from college in Belfast and emigrated to Canada in 1819 or 1820. Arthur's mother met his father while William Arthur was teaching at a school in Dunham, Quebec, just over the border from her native Vermont. The two married in Dunham on April 12, 1821, soon after meeting.[7] After their first child, Regina, was born, the Arthurs moved to Vermont.

Spoken like a true "low information" voter. I'll give you credit for keeping it clean, though.

If Senator Cruz were truly an "illegal immigrant", that would have been found out during his Senate campaign. These flights of fancy of yours are quite remarkable. Although I'm sure your personal attacks are satisfying to you, they do nothing to support Donald J. Trump for President.

Actually, no "good reason" at all -- only uncorroborated rumors. You're making things up.

Cruz, of course, knew that he was born in Canada. But Harvard ed or not, he had no particular reason to be familiar with Canadian citizenship law, and would not necessarily have been aware of his standing -- which, in any case, was legally irrelevant.

I believe this approach is a formula for failure. The Republican Party must unite behind our candidate. This is what the Democrats do par excellence.

Well a Consular Report of Birth Abroad is the function equivalent of a USA Birth Certificate. So without one Cruz has no claim to US citizenship. I recently lost my picture ID, I had to go thru hell to prove I was a US citizen and get a new picture ID and new SS card. I need certified medical records to get the SS card, then I needed my Birth Certificate, SS card, bank statement and two recent bills showing my address to get the ID card. But as we found out yesterday laws and rules are for little people. Not elites like Ted Cruz and Hillary Clinton whom Cruz and all the other #NeverTrump ers appears to be supporting over Trump.

No I am not making things up. His morther married a English man and moved to England she most likely applied for and was granted UK Citizenship. If so upon her arrival in Canada she as a citizen of the UK could have gotten Canadian citizenship in just one year. She was on the voting rolls, which requires citizenship, so she likely was in fact a Canadian citizen just like her husband.

Lie? How so? As you yourself posted...

His father, William Arthur, was born in Dreen, Cullybackey, County Antrim, in what is now Northern Ireland...

Chester A. Arthur didn't meet the birther NBC standard of two American-born parents.

A CRBA doesn't change one's status. It merely confirms it.

If that is GOPBR, the ‘discourse’ there has devolved to almost DU levels in the last half year or so. Not worth the time.

Not so.

From Dallas Morning News, July 6, 2016

Wilson confirmed one fact critical to Cruz’s presidential campaign, that Cruz’s mother never became a British subject while she was working in London. Despite his many years in Britain, Wilson said he too never became a citizen of the United Kingdom.

Chester A Arthur’s father moved to the USA in 7 years before Chester was born. His father was a US citizen at the time of his birth.

I'm not disputing that. But the birther standard is that, to be a NBC, both parents must also be natural-born citizens.

And, of course, Arthur doesn't meet that standard.
