We’ve talked a lot about Donald Trump needing a change in the shape and trajectory of this presidential race in order to have a fighting chance in November.
Most of our focus, though, has been on the chances for a change coming by the demerits of Hillary Clinton. What if she were charged with a crime? What if Team Putin sank her with some stolen documents?
Trump, though, is taking the initiative today with the kind of bold move that could actually reset the race. Rather than waiting for Hillary to implode, Trump is trying to make his own luck with a surprise trip to Mexico.
Now, we know that American men who make spur-of-the-moment decisions to take trips to Mexico sometimes end up with unhappy results. And while the context here is different, Trump certainly faces plenty of dangers.
But before we get to those, let’s consider the upsides.
Trump’s campaign has been desperately trying to play down expectations for his “major speech” on immigration to be delivered in Arizona tonight. Nothing doing. Trump won the GOP nomination largely on the basis of roasting his rivals on the topic and it has been the issue that has defined him.
Re-racking his posture and policies on the animating feature of his candidacy is a big deal....

Trump takes a chance on Mexico?
Trump showed that he is more adept at foreign affairs than the former Secretary of State.
He showed that he is very capable of meeting with foreign leaders — on their turf.
Trump wins the day today. for sure.
“On day one, we will begin working on an impenetrable physical wall on the southern border. We will use the best technology, including above-and below-ground sensors, towers, aerial surveillance and manpower to supplement the wall, find and dislocate tunnels, and keep out the criminal cartels, and Mexico will pay for the wall.”
Heh heh heh ... seems like El Presidente may have SAID they weren’t going to pay for it but there was no discussion about it, according to Donald. Mexico is walking it back now. Good. Plenty of time for that. Kiss your free penal and welfare plans goodbye, Mexico, and we’ll build it a la carte. Hold the remissions.
As Hannity said; today could be both Trump’s best so far and a pivotal day as well.

While Hillary is doing nothing but damage controlling and lying, Trump is actually doing something productive. I think it’s pretty clear now, Trump will win and Hillary will lose. Trump is actually acting professional, while Hillary tries to be hip with the kids but failing to do so, all the while just pitting her problems on the Russians as if it were the 1960’s again. Trump is with the times, and Hillary is still stuck in the past.
