Clinton threw the Kitchen sink at Trump. Trump missed some opportunities
but held his own throughout.
Clinton will throw the same stuff at Trump the next two debates.
Trump will have honed his counter points and will not miss those
opportunities again.
I.E. Trump has a lot of room to improve.
Clinton has maxed out.
And Trump still beat her in most snap polls.
Trump wins hearts by standing there and taking punches from his leftist opponents (both Clinton and Holt), because it reveals who they are, and who he is.

Point well taken.
Let me clarify my meaning: Whoever walked onto that stage with Hillary Clinton, and Lester Holt “moderating”, whether it be McCain, Romney, Cruz, Bush or any republican, would have received the same amount of ‘incoming’ in one form or another. That’s what Drmocrats do; they sling mud.
So, any of them would have been punching bags in that sense. So there are two questions: how do they react to getting punched, and how do the viewers react to them getting punched.
I agree, standing there and taking punches because you won’t defend yourself or because you are a coward would be an unattractive way to react, and Trump didn’t do that.
But I’m not talking about how Trump reacted, I’m talking about how I think the viewers react when he gets punched.
I think Trump is seen as a fighter - no problem there. But when he’s attacked, I think he also comes off as a ‘sympathetic character’ - the good guy in the movie that is being unfairly attacked, and you want him to prevail.
I think he accomplishes this by staking out the moral high ground (Hillary can articulate her vast leftist experience all she wants, but everyone knows she’s in the wrong). They want to see Trump score points, but really, he already scored those points long ago by successfully branding her crooked Hillary. Now, any time she opens her mouth he scores sympathy points, the more ‘articulate’ the better, the more zinger the better. Because she’s in the wrong, that is not even being disputed.
Does anyone with common sense dispute that we should not get ripped off by foreign countries, that we should have border security, law and order, 2nd amendment, religious freedom, limited government, honest politicians? I don’t think so. I think even the democrats know they are in the wrong, but it’s what side their bread is buttered on so they pander, lie and cheat - but in their hearts most know it’s wrong.
I think many democrats with a conscience cringe when they see Clinton call Trump a racist, or sexist, when it’s obvious he’s not. I think they cringe when they see her attack him for avoiding taxes, when any sane person would do the same. I think they cringe a little when she accuses him of calling Rosie O’Donnel a fat ugly pig, when they know she really is in fact a fat ugly pig, and a nasty one to boot...and that Hillery herself has been nothing but an enabler to the rapist in chief Bill Clinton, her pervert husband.
So I didn’t mean taking punches like a McCain, I meant taking punches as in being willing to make the sacrifice of entering a hostile world of public service, going up against profound odds, taking mortal risks, working tirelessly, when he can afford to live on an island and have grapes fed to him by beautiaful women.
I don’t think we (at least I) have completely grasped the depth of the sacrifice this man is making. That’s what I meant by taking punches and winning hearts.

Believe it or not, Glen Beck (whom I listen about 5 minutes a day, average, because there is no one great on my way to work) had an INTERESTING TAKE.
Beck said Trump was GENIUS, that he’s putting the noose right around The Corruption’s neck, because HE ONLY ATTACKED POLITICIANS, not her personally or even Democrats.
Bizarre but refreshing view, given the source.

I listen to him several months ago, because no one else is on at that hour here , and thought he was starting to say something nice about Trump, and then it turned into an attack. Haven’t listened sense.
Sometimes the Lord speaks to me in interesting ways.
It wasn’t all nice about Trump. Beck seems to be in a schizoid phase.
He is a very fast learner.
He is also ALWAYS strategic in what he says or does, something the Dems will never comprehend about him.
I have no doubt we will be much happier next time.
