Daughter of this blue bastion's last Republican senator shatters state Republican fundraising record (New Mexico)

The daughter of New Mexico’s last Republican senator has set a new fundraising record for a GOP Senate candidate in the blue-leaning southwestern state.

Nella Domenici's campaign announced early Friday that the candidate brought in over $1.25 million from mid-January, when she launched her bid, through the end of last month, which brought to a close the January-March first quarter of 2024 fundraising.

Domenici, the daughter of former longtime Republican Sen. Pete Domenici, is the presumptive GOP nominee and is aiming to defeat Democrat Sen. Martin Heinrich, who is running in November for a third six-year term representing New Mexico in the Senate.

The $1.25 million haul is being touted as the largest fundraising total of any Republican U.S. Senate candidate in New Mexico history for the first quarter of an election year.

Domenici's campaign also showcased that she received donations from more than 1,100 individuals.

Domenici said in a statement that "for too long, New Mexico has been hurt by career politicians like Martin Heinrich who have put their extreme progressive ideology ahead of solving problems and the best interests of New Mexicans."

Pete Domenici served for 36 years in the Senate before retiring at the beginning of 2009 at the end of his sixth term.

The legacy of her father, who died in 2017, gives the younger Domenici a powerful political brand and plenty of name recognition in New Mexico.

And with decades of her own experience in the finance industry at Bridgewater Associates (where she served as chief financial officer), Credit Suisse and Citadel Investment group, Domenici comes with a broad fundraising network of her own. She said when announcing her bid that she would make an initial investment of a half million dollars.

She's a northeast RINO who hasn't lived in NM for years. But Heinrich, who is a far-left radical, doesn't live here either and even a RINO would be better than what we have.

BTW, Heinrich brought in nearly $4.5 million last year and ended 2023 with roughly $3.5 million cash-on-hand in his campaign coffers

Being from the northeast and with her connections, she has the backing of the National Republican Senatorial Committee which encouraged her to run.

IIRC Laxalt, who ran in Nevada, is her half-brother.

Poppa Pete was a hound dog who got around.

NM and Arizona have been overrun by Californicate progs. They are like locusts heading east.

Pete’s cousin was Charlie Domenici, who worked at Cook’s Sporting Goods from 1959 until 1972 when he started his own hunting and fishing store. I used to stop in there a couple times a week for well over a decade. Sportsman’s Warehouse and Cabela’s opened in town and covid restrictions (although he had passed by then) finally killed the store. Although 51 years was a good run.

There’s another candidate here in SE New Mexico I’d like to hear about from folks in Carlsbad. He is Steven McCutcheon who Governor Lujan-Grisham appointed as state senator to replace retiring Gay Kernan. Larry Scott, the other candidate, is from Hobbs and has been in the legislature as a conservative representative for many years and well represented the needs of SE NM citizens. He was recommended by county commissioners in several counties to replace Kernan but MLG chose McCutcheon.

McCutcheon apparently has quite a war chest as he frequently appears in ads on Fox News and was interviewed by Harris Faulkner on Fox the other morning. Also, I just received a mail flyer from him claiming Scott supports sanctuary cities. That doesn’t fit Larry’s MO so I suspect McCutcheon has an army of dirt diggers who will stop at nothing to smear a good candidate.

Thanks for the info, Dave.
No wonder I never knew of her, even though I knew Pete slightly to moderately well. (He was one of my father’s buddies in the ‘60s & 70’s)

I hate to admit it but one needs to add Maine to that list as well.

The 35.7% white population is not deciding the vote in New Mexico.

She looks like she has the ‘pedigree’ to do some good for your state.

If I were in your shoes, I’d hold my nose and vote for her, versus letting another Rat have a seat at the table.

Believe me - I’ve held my nose and voted more times than I’d liked in my own state!
