CBS's Fantasy: Mrs. Reagan Slaps Patti

Part of the sleazy script of CBS's "The Reagans" seen by Matt Drudge shows a scene at the Reagans' house in Pacific Palisades after Ronald Reagan won the presidency.

According to the script, as revealed by Drudge Report today, Nancy Reagan is upstairs in daughter Patti's bedroom while Ronald Reagan is downstairs getting ready to do TV interviews.

Nancy is depicted arguing with 5-year-old Patti, who won't come downstairs.

NANCY: Come on, Patti. They're all set to go.

PATTI: No. I won't. I want to stay up here and play.

Nancy grits her teeth and takes Patti by the wrist.

NANCY: No arguing. We're going down, right now.

PATTI: No! No! No! No! NO! NO!

The script says that Nancy then "reaches out and slaps Patti. Patti reels, holding her cheek. Nancy freezes."

"I don't see anything wrong with that because I remember my mother trying to comb my tangled hair when I was 5 years old. Mom sat me on the table and I'm putting up a fuss. She finally got tired of yanking my hair out of my scalp to free the tangles. As a result, she smacked me with the comb on my jaw and yelled for me to hold still. Naturally, I'm crying harder. As a child I didn't understand but now that I'm an adult I understand. Nancy should have whacked her on the other cheek too."

I disagree. I have a five-year-old daughter who can be very wilfull. I have never hit her in anger once, and could never bring myself to do it. Plus I don't believe it would accomplish anything except to inflame an already trying situation.

My technique is to force her to look me in the eyes, while I speak in low measured tones a la Clint Eastwood. She has only ever seen me really mad at her a few times, and she never wants to see it again. She knows when I do the Clint Eastwood approach that she better smarten up or she will see it again. It always works.

Of course, I have no idea what happened with Patty on election night, but I know that if I had to face the media and political frenzy associated with having been elected President -- and my 5-year old was refusing to participate -- I'd hand her off to someone she was comfortable with to occupy her and I'd let her miss the festivities.

Why don't we write a script about Babs Streisand. You know, a dramatized account of a fictional encounter. Sort of like this Reagan movie.

We could start with Babs confronting her son on his sexual decisions and have her screech like a harpie quoting that Phelps person.

Would that be wrong? Isn't this essentially what the Brolin characterization is doing?

Dear General Manager,

It has come to my attention that the upcoming CBS mini-series on Ronald Reagan depicts one of our greatest presidents in a derogatory manner. The show is full of misrepresentations, misquotes, and flat-out lies. CBS has made a conscious decision to conspire with the left wing fanatics of Hollywood in an endeavor to attack and rewrite history on one of the greatest presidents of our time, former President Reagan.

As General Manager of a CBS affilate, you have the decision whether to broadcast this piece of garbage. I hope that WSPA makes the right decision not to air this mini-series.

My whole extended family will be boycotting not only all CBS's national programming, like CSI, AMY, JAG, JOAN, LETTERMAN, HACK, GUARDIAN, SURVIVOR, etc., but also WSPA's local news shows and sponsors if your station elects to show this series. Be assured the news of this "boycott" will be broadcasted and implemented thoughout the WSPA area. I hope you will please pass this information on to CBS Headquarters in NYC.

You're reading my mind except I was thinking of writing a script about Les Moonves. One scene would show Les with his lips firmly planted on Fidel Castro's butt. In contrast to the TV movie this would NOT be fiction.

What clips did Drudge have? The article says he has a script. And doesn't the fact that Patti Reagan was 28 when Reagan was elected president, or 12 when he was elected governor, give a clue that Drudge's "information" is bunk? He probably got it from Rita Cosby and one of her "exclusive sources". All this big outrage is doing is creating publicity, and ratings, for this movie, ala Fox News' lawsuit against Al Franken in connection with his now best selling book.

I had no opinion until I heard with my own ears the audio clips Drudge played today while he was subbing for Rush.

I was shocked and horrified by what I heard. Having lived through the Reagan years I found no similarity to this portrayal and reality whatsoever.

It really sounded horrific and was an absolute travesty. This actress playing Nancy is beyond over the top.

As to Gibson's movie. I've read much about the intentions of Gibson, read accounts by people who have viewed it with their own eyes, read accounts of those who worked on the film, and finally, I've viewed the trailer for the film many times. It is not comparable at all. Those who have not seen Gibson's movie are the critics. It is those who have seen or heard this Reagan movie, or read the script excerpts who are justifiably outraged.

I'm offended when I read my sister's history book about Reagan and Gingrich. Apparently Clinton saved us from Gingrich who hated black people. This is not just entertainment. It ceases to be entertainment when it defames a person that is still alive for the sole purpose of swaying people to believe that person was evil. Any entertainer or network that throws down a gauntlet against conservativism should expect to be challenged.

Get a clue. Drudge played clips from the movie on the Rush Limbaugh show today. The critics of Gibson's film "thought" it "might" cause "feelings" of anti-semitism because it had the audacity to quote what the bible actually says. This film isn't based on anything except the DNC's "feelings" about Reagan. What experts were consulted?

Uh, Patti was born in 1952, she would have been 28 in 1980 and old enough to have a 5 year old daughter herself. Nancy was born in 1921, meaning if Patti was 5 in 1980, Nancy would have been 54 years old when she had her.

And as another Freeper posted, even if it was supposed to have happened when he was elected Governor of California, Patti would have been 14! Hope Hannity and Hume pick this up!
