"It is unethical and improper to characterize the motives of our colleagues in the senate...I do not question their motives and they should not question mine." No Senator .. this is what is unethical and improper!
"SUMMARY: Intelligence issues are clearly secondary to the public's concern regarding the insurgency in Iraq.

What makes the smoke come out of my ears when I read this memo is how cozy Pat Roberts is with these shameful men. His behaviour goes beyond "new tone" to syncophancy and collaboration with the (political) enemy.
I DO NOT think he has done a responsible job of leading an inquiry, in that he has allowed it to be deflected to political ends that are harmful to the Country. He needs to take his spine back out of the closet and put it to use, or resign and put someone in there who will.
To: linn37
He's lying on the Senate floor he should be removed tarred and feathered.It would be better to do it right there for the C-SPAN cameras.

"SUMMARY: Intelligence issues are clearly secondary to the public's concern regarding the insurgency in Iraq.This is why I believe that Sen. Roberts statements about getting back to work, and trying to insure that partisanship on his committee, does not get out of hand, are spot on. He exposes the dims for politicizing the Senate Intellegence Committee, which points out their real agenda. If he had attacked with a vengence, it would have neutralized the issue.

This is incredible! Durbin calling for independent commission! The arrogance is breathtaking I guess this is the One Chance the Dems have ... per the memo
""3) Prepare to launch an independent investigation when it becomes clear we have exhausted the opportunity to usefully collaborate with the majority. We can pull the trigger on an independent investigation of the administration's use of intelligence at any time. But we can only do so once. "

Bayh admits that Rockefeller has been under "intense pressure" to pursue a more partisan investigation, and has decided to pursue a bipartisan approach FIRST, That is NO excuse for ANY member on the Select Intell Committee to call our nations national secuirty "Secondary"

Dear Senator Warner;
I am going to send this note also to Senator Allen. I wanted you to know how frustrated my fellow Republicans are pertaining to our lack of assertiveness in the U.S. Senate from our elected officials. With the judicial obstructionism of the Democrats, and now this matter of the democratic memo, we feel our leaders are not standing up for what is right. We feel that our leaders have lost sight of the political ideology that got them elected, and instead consider themselves members of a fraternity, wherein you don't want to upset the other members. We realize the U.S. Senate is a place for certain decorum and acting like gentlemen, but Senator, we are getting run over by the Democrats and it's almost as though there are no Republican senators in all of D.C. Someone needs to take the lead of our elected representatives, and I consider it appropriate that Virginia be the leader of getting this country back on track again. Please stop the Democrats smear campaign and their judicial obstructionism, and reverse this trend of Republicans toward being pushovers.
Sincerely
ET1/SS Russell D. Easley, USN

The writer of that memo sounds like a loon. Good point.
Did you see that stuff about "unilateralism?" Direct talking points from the PR firms hired by France, Saudi and Iraq before the war this year.

It was a staffer memo according to Levin... So is Levin saying that Staffers control and tell what the Dem Party it says and does???
If you think about it .. it doesn't say much for their party Leadership that they answer to Staffers
