Yep. You hit on a good point here. Maybe BK didn't like the baby eating food he didn't buy there.

what is a mother supposed to do? Could she have stayed home for twenty more minutes? Or if she was headed home after an appointment, could she have fed the baby in the quiet and privacy of her car/SUV, then gone into Burger King?

Only light bulbs.

If they were at Burger King, the baby had the best food in the joint by far. Nothing can compete with mother's milk, but I perfer B.K. to McDonalds or Wendy's. In Texas, we (I) perfer WhataBurger! I don't think they have made it out of state yet. I guess I've started something now.

You said: That said.... we are the only mammal that would find nursing to be sexually explicit or inappropriate... one of the little neuroses of Western culture.
We are also the only mammal that produces art (yes, I have heard of the elephant that paints), much of which celebrates the human form, the most alluring aspect of which (to me, anyway) is the female breast. Female breasts attract attention, even when being put to the use God made them for. That said, public nursing has never offended or aroused me, and I am amazed that Burger King could not come up with a better apology.

Darn! Beat me to it. I was gonna post that.
Oh well, I guess I will just have to add a word about the attractively shaped containers....

Anyone who would get upset about a breast-feeding mom/baby in Utah, spends A LOT of time upset. Esp. if they are in the Utah Valley...baby capital of the U.S. Babies & Moms are everywhere...and so are the breasts.

How would a mother breast-feeding her child cause you to lose your appetite? I do not understand.

"Burger King says an employee was responding to another customer who was uncomfortable with Geary breast-feeding her baby in the restaurant." So what's the big deal? In Mexico, poor women who are breast-feeding walk right up to you with their palm extended. Breast exposed, no shame, and a pitiful look. The last thing you think of is the breast; what you feel is hope that she can continue feeding that baby. I know, it may or may not be a racket, that's beside the point. Point is, breast-feeding is natural and people should get over it.

Could she have stayed home for twenty more minutes? Or if she was headed home after an appointment, could she have fed the baby in the quiet and privacy of her car/SUV, then gone into Burger King?It sounds so easy, but I have four kids, and I breastfed each of them for at least nine months and things just don't always work out just right...they don't necessarily stay on a certain schedule and a hungry, complaining baby can be pretty unpleasant. I have had to feed a baby in some places I would rather not have, but I did realize early on that it was ridiculous for me to feed my child in a nasty public bathroom just because some people have a breast fixation and can't deal with moms breastfeeding in public. That is just silly.
It seems to me that if we can listen to sexual disfunction adds on the radio ten times a day we can put up with women breastfeeding in public.

Even if she was protected by law apparently, if she was breast feeding and someone else noticed enough to care, she was doing it wrong.Doesn't matter. She's going to win a lawsuit either way....

Okay but if mom is 200+ pounds and doesn't cover up, I'm inclined to lose my appetite... and I nursed two babies for a total of 30 months.Hey, I need to lose a few pounds. Where can I find one of these to lose my appetite over...?
To: T Lady
Mrs. (or is it Ms.?) Geary needs to learn the definition of Discretion, and how it applies to breast feeding her child without putting on a show.Who said she was putting on a show?
To: freebilly
I need to lose a few pounds too. But I don't expose major body parts at fast food restaurants. I'm just as inclined to dislike the overweight guy who wears shorts or whose butt crack shows.

Nothing in the world could be more natural than a human eating.Defecating is natural too, but nobody wants to watch (Freaks excluded).
Truthfully, I normally don't have a problem with public breastfeeding...BUT it all depends on the details of the situation. For example, if I was dining out and a 300 pound woman plopped down in front of me and unveileded a breast to breastfeed - I would not be happy about it. Know what I mean?
Call me shallow and flame at will - at least I'm honest.

But I woudn't tattle to a restaurant employee, either. This offended person could get another seat, it's only burger King.

I breastfed my child in public many times when she was an infant.Generally, I found a secluded location, turned my back, and took simple modest steps to maintain our privacy and the serenity required to feed my baby.
I never "flashed" my breasts in public.
I also never bared my breasts to garner cheap beads at a parade, or to show how "liberated" I am to a group of male strangers.
I also dont scratch my crotch or pick my nose in public.
Not because I dont get an itch or have a boogar, but because I was raised that it was impolite to attend openly to certain private bodily functions that others might normally consider rude and offensive in our society.
I guess it is now considered rude to be polite in public places.
