Utah-AP -- Burger King has given a generic apology to a woman who claims she was told to stop breast-feeding her baby in a Utah restaurant. Kate Geary says she was made to "feel like a criminal" when an employee told her to either stop the feeding or leave the dining room.
Geary asked for an apology from the fast-food company -- which issued a prepared statement today, apologizing for "any inconvenience" any guests suffered.
Burger King says an employee was responding to another customer who was uncomfortable with Geary breast-feeding her baby in the restaurant.
Utah state law gives women the right to breast-feed anywhere.

Even if she was protected by law apparently, if she was breast feeding and someone else noticed enough to care, she was doing it wrong.

Mrs. (or is it Ms.?) Geary needs to learn the definition of Discretion, and how it applies to breast feeding her child without putting on a show.

Looks like they dropped their old motto: Have it your way.

if she was breast feeding and someone else noticed enough to care, she was doing it wrong.Hmmm. Thinking about this one. Could you elaborate. It seems like right and wrong would be defined as whether the baby was getting a good flow of milk, not by the score she got from the spectators.

Well, nursing moms get pretty good at having the right clothes and covers with them so that most could nurse in plain view without anyone noticing. If they are being discreet.
That said.... we are the only mammal that would find nursing to be sexually explicit or inappropriate... one of the little neuroses of Western culture.

Okay but if mom is 200+ pounds and doesn't cover up, I'm inclined to lose my appetite... and I nursed two babies for a total of 30 months.

A mother wears a blouse that can be unbuttoned discreetly under a baby blanket thrown over her shoulder. Then the baby can nurse without being seen.
Of course, there are always a few people who find this distasteful, even if they are not directly viewing the action. Bottle fed babies, methinks.
To: Prodigal Son
It seems common courtesy if you're breastfeeding is to have a blanket covering the baby and chest. The story doesn't explain whether she was letting it all hang out or not, but if she was, I don't blame the customer for being uncomfortable.
Otherwise, what is a mother supposed to do? Feed the baby in the filthy restroom? I think not!!

I never breastfed in public, but I have no problem with other mothers doing so. I think the blanket over the babies head thing is stupid.... why should the baby have to suffocate under a blanket? A top with special openings is discreet enough.
This mother wasn't necessarily putting on a show, or noticed because she was indiscreet.
Sometimes the baby makes sucking noises, and with a baby in front of you, folks just figure out what is going on. There are still idiots in the world who are squeamish at the very idea of such an act being carried out in their presence. Enlightened folks simply pretend not to notice.

If they are being discreet. Hmmm. I find it a bit strange that the infant should be discreet when he eats when everyone else in the joint is eating out in the open ;-)

It seems common courtesy if you're breastfeeding is to have a blanket covering the baby and chest. Do you put a blanket over your head when you eat?

As I said.... we westerners are more than a bit neurotic about boobs. ;~D

Of course, there are always a few people who find this distasteful, And I've never understood that. Nothing in the world could be more natural than a human eating. Now, if the baby is doing it with his mouth open or is making too many smacking noises... ;-)

Nothing in the world could be more natural than a human eating If they were at Burger King, the baby had the best food in the joint by far.
