Since the left is busy trying to repeat with Iraq its stab in the back performance in Viet Nam this article is of some interest in reprising how US armed forces did not lose that unhappy conflict but decisons by the national command authority and the actions of communist sympathizers did.

Myth #8. Minorites fought and died in higher proportions than the population of America as a whole. That it was a "white man's war" fought by black men.

Myth #8 (cont.) that it was the poor, uneducated draftees that died and were wounded...
The most overeprsented group were white males from middle class homes with an average of 2 yrs of college, enlisted and volunteered for duty in RVN

I highly recomend Richard Nixon's book "No More Vietnams" It's in paperback and its an easy read. He makes most of these points and substantiates it all with good facts and arguments.

All those myths are indeded myths, but with one elaboration: there was a religious element to the VC. A number of the VC fought because a significant persentage of the French-educated and French-trained leaders of the Republic of Viet Nam were Catholics, while the mass of the peasants were Buddhists. A number of Buddhist VC's gave that as a significant reason when asked why they were fighting.

It's so sad to see the anti-American Left trying telling the same kind of lies that they used in Viet Nam to try to get us to run away from Iraq.

The anti-American Left has no shame. None.

Once the bombing of Hanoi had begun, the war could have been finished off in 3 weeks. In any case it was the beginning of the end of Communist expansionism. In that sense, the Vietnam War was a success even if it wasn't America's war. Too bad about Cambodia, that would not have happened if America had finished the job rather than withdrawing.

Great article!
Kinda of interesting though....the last time I suggested some of the things that this article states, seemed like people came out of "the woodwork" to accuse me of being anti-American.
Nice to see people still interested in the truth.

Nice piece, thanks for the post.

Seems to me the whole thing boils down to Landsdale (sp?) backed the wrong horse. Once we propped up Diem, we were doomed. When Ho was busy fighting the Japanese, Diem was picking daisies in Paris. If you're a peasant Vietnamese, which one are you going to listen to?
