And it should make you and everyone else uneasy. Just look at how our country's beliefs, morals, standards, religion, family, law and order have all eroded. Think about it.

A lot of land would be uninhabitable. Only many dirty nukes could contaminate enough land to create a significant food supply problem. Conventional explosives with radioactive material cannot contaminate a large area.
I'm sure there would be some level of disorder, but the U.S. would not fall apart even if there were a nuke detonated in a U.S. city.

Gen. MacArthur ran the country. A defacto military government and imposed a constitution on Japan.
To: Cautor
Actually, employment would probably get better; our gov't would imposed a martial law type fascist system; worked wonders for Germany.
To: Momaw Nadon
Yes, it does sound that way. Maybe someone will tell us for sure. Thanks though.

"a large part of the judiciary currently seated on the bench has ALREADY thrown away the constitution, we have to take the country back from them."

Franks sounds like he expects the people to demand security from the politicians who will comply by setting up a police state.
That he does and I see he has good reason to so fear..

Merely having a CCW permit is tantamount to having one's guns registered (in most states that issue them). CCW permit owners can turn in one gun and keep the rest.

As far as I'm concerned, the constitution has been suspended for some time. Historians will argue about the date it effectively became "a living document" but I reckon most will settle on 1973.
That said, a WMD attack--particularly a nuclear one--would force us to declare war on someone. I don't know that anyone would take the trouble to officially declare the Constitution null. We'll just have a dictatorship along the lines of the Lincoln or FDR administrations. AND -- I think that the Republic would be reinvigorated in the aftermath, just as it was following the Civil War and WWII...

I think you have the correct scenario. Martial law along with a realization that foreign national potential combatants have no civil rights along with illegals from all parts of the world. Certain rights might be temporarily suspended (as Lincoln did during the Civil War) in order to restore order and prevent certain groups from creating chaos in the large population areas. There are plenty of homegrown scumbags who would take advantage of a catastrophe to further their own goals or themselves. In the long run, we would return to our basic constitutional form of representative republic, and I am convinced that this would occur pretty quickly.

If we're hit with a nuke, the economy will suffer for a time, but we will do what is necessary to make sure it never happens again. That means sending the muslims back to the middle east, or northern africa, or whatever 3rd world fascist dump they've made for themselves. Let's not pretend that the founders desired our present form of immigration. They never imagined we would be this stupid.
To: hope
But Franks scenario goes much further. He is the first high-ranking official to openly speculate that the Constitution could be scrapped in favor of a military form of government Why do I get the feeling this isn't exactly what he said .. that there is more to his comment

.....This nation can survive and rise above anything any enemy throws at us, including a WMD attack. That does not sound like sticking ones head in the sand. This doomsday, the constitution is dead or will die talk is the talk of people with heads in the sand or somewhere else where the sun does not shine..... Thank you, Mr. Head. This is an interesting and thought provoking topic and worthy of serious discussion, but anyone who believes this nation will go down because of one traumatic event is wrong. Yes, it is possible that the Constitution might be set aside for a short period, but there are too many of us who would fight to ensure that it was put right back into place after we took care of the immediate threat.

I would hope that such a scenerio would be temporary.. I don't think there would be a military-stype government per se, but the military and the government would be afforded great liberty in the way they (dis)obey the constitution. I don't ever want to see my city streets policed by the military.. If WMD ever hit our shores .. I agree things would get nasty .. But we should NEVER throw our Constitution to the curb for even a minute
The Constitution is the foundation of a Country

Lets hope these Islamofascists are all turban and no Jihad.
Lets hope the FBI is doing a good enough job to stop an attack but with our porous borders I don't see how they can keep track of everything.
I hope Iran and Syria realize what might happen if this attack does occur because who do we strike out at ? The Saudis covered their butts by being attacked by Al Queda a few times. This is series.
