The following is IMRA's translation of the results of a poll of a representative sample of 618 adult Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and eastern Jerusalem carried by the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion (PCPO) under the direction of PCPO President Dr.Nabil Kukali on 15- 20 October 2003 as published in Arabic in Al Hayyat Al Jadeedah on 20 November 2003. The survey was commissioned by "The New Family Organization".

Do you believe it is important to raise a child to be: Shahid 18.6% Farmer 8.9% Academic with a profession 59.2% Other 13.3%

What type of legal marriage arrangement would you prefer there to be in the Palestinian state? Religious - polygamy 27.8% Religious - monogamy 50.8% Civil with mixed religion marriages 11.4% Don't care 10.0%

There are barely any women active in Palestinian politics because: 38.8% Woman's place is in the home 14.1% Not talented enough 8.1% Prohibited by religious law 7.6% If women were in politics it would hurt the status of men 31.4% Other

Response to adultery in a marriage: 30.7% Kill the adulterer 9.1% Kill the adulterer only if female 29.3% Separate or divorce 7.6% Divorce only if female was the adulterer 6.1% Forgive the adulterer 17.2% No opinion

Religiosity Secular 5.3% Traditional 46.0% Religious 44.2% Ultra-religious 4.5%

The president of the PCPO, Dr. Nabil Kukali, notes that the survey error was +/- 3.94 percentage points.

Academic with a profession surely means someone who has studied in an Arab institution, an institution where an "academic" is considered a person who has learned the ins and outs of hating Jews and Christians, and supports terrorism.

Almost twice as many Palestinians would rather go out and kill an adulterer. Maybe this is progress.

Anyway the future will be built around the 81.4% of the population that will not raise their children to be Shahid.
