[history]
Sacramento -- Making her first public appearance as California's first lady, Maria Shriver said Wednesday that she and the governor don't like the cuts he proposed but said they are necessary during the state's fiscal crisis.
Shriver, visiting a Sacramento food bank, said she thought people recognized that "we're in a crisis, that we have to pull together, that it's going to be painful, but ideally we're going to come out of this stronger."

"Nobody likes the cuts. Arnold doesn't like the cuts," she said. "There is nobody that takes joy in that. I think we hope California can come back and that one will be able to put money into programs in the future, but that's not the case right now. Is that painful? Yes."
OK, got it.

I think the Governator and Maria make one heck of a team. There may be hope yet.

Well, that's pretty much what he said at his initial announcement, so no one should be surprised.
To be fair, it could be the case that he's simply full of it, and that this is merely window dressing (e.g. the pill goes down easier with a little sugar).
OTOH, nothing he has said or done would really indicate that to be the case.

California's first lady on one of the previous governors:
"The death of your daughter [is] squarely at the feet of the Reagan Administration. Don't you believe that they're responsible for that?"
-- To AIDS activist Elizabeth Glaser during 1992 GOP convention. Wow! What an improvement over Sharon Davis!! Thank GOODNESS the 'Republicans' are running the governor's mansion! The Land of Reagan Riordan has such good people to point out that cutting budgets is a terrible thing. Sadly though, they might have to actually hack away at some stuff for a few months until there's a opporunity to spend more money for "the children"

What California needs is serious budge cutting
as in the tens of billions.
Not a couple billion in what are probably mainly
phony cuts. Then borrow the rest!
The interest rate payments alone will more
than offset these tiny cuts in the long run.

"I think part of what I would like to talk about is the fact that parenting is for men and women."
It is the 'Liberal thing'; advising, mentoring, counseling their constituency. They cannot help themselves.
