Is This the Death of the BCS? Oklahoma Loses!
Posted on 12/06/2003 8:29:48 PM PST by Lunatic Fringe
I cannot see how the BCS can send Oklahoma to the national championship game if the Sooners cannot even win their Conference championship.
It's time for a playoff system!

That's what I'm doing. Trying to wait for the final score, but I really ought to call it a night.

Considering that all other NCAA sports use a play-off system, that would be the best thing to do.
The question is...
What happens to the current system of bowl games? There's a lot of tradition in those bowl games, even the non-BCS one like the Peach Bowl or the Holiday Bowl.
I think the biggest resistance to a play-off system would come from the bowl organizing committees and the corporations that sponsor them.

The probability is that USC will be ranked #1 in both the Coaches and AP polls but finish 3rd in the BCS standings behind OU and LSU who will play for the still mythical National Championship in the Sugar Bowl while USC will travel down the road to Pasadena to play in the Rose Bowl.

I love a perfectly constructed sentence. Thank you.

Oh-oh. Only a ten point lead.
On a slightly different subject, (since this thread is apparently ours exclusively) who's your pick to win the Heissman?

How can LSU pass up USC in the BCS rankings? LSU was behind, lost their bonus points and USC will probably be ranked No1 in the AP and Coaches polls, picking up points that no one figured because everyone thought OU would not lose, thus retaining the No1 ranking.
