Is This the Death of the BCS? Oklahoma Loses!
Posted on 12/06/2003 8:29:48 PM PST by Lunatic Fringe
I cannot see how the BCS can send Oklahoma to the national championship game if the Sooners cannot even win their Conference championship.
It's time for a playoff system!

USC #1, LSU #2, OU at best #3, probably #4 based on the whuppin put on 'em tonight (at least in the "human" polls). With both Texas and Kansas State going to BCS bowls, OU might not even get into a BCS bow. Perhaps they could play TCU in the Fort Worth Bowl.

"No, we don't need a playoff system. We need to recognize that putting in a playoff system would put too much of a load on the students involved, and that not having an undisputed national champion will not mean the end of Western Civilization. Amen. If you want everything cut and dried, go watch the (boring) Sunday game.

We need to recognize that putting in a playoff system would put too much of a load on the students involved What kind of burden is on students during December? Finals are next week. Most bowl games are in late December, early January - between semesters. They can use those 3-4 weeks to implement a playoff and Championship game.

I don't think either USC or Oklahoma want to face the Tigerrs in New Orleans. They keep getting stronger as the season goes on.

Michigan should be #3 at least. When you get stomped like that, you don't deserve to be above a team that has played well for a long time now and hasn't been blown out of any game this year.
I just wish LSU and USC had both lost, Michigan would be in the National Title game right now(actually if only one of them had lost, they'd be there with Oklahoma's loss tonight)

I'd like to see 8 Division I conferences, with the 8 conferences winners advancing to a playoffs. ....Title game to be played at the Rose Bowl on New Years Day. Is Notre Dame one of those conferences?

lol......Obviously they'd have to be placed in one of the 8. .....quite a bit of restructuring would need to happen, obviously. But it's long overdue.

Actually, it was just for situations like this that the BCS was designed. If there were a clear cut 1 and 2, there would be no need for the BCS.

And then Nebraska lost to... Oh yeah, the Miami HURRICANES!! And how did Nebraska do in that National Championship game? LOL!!!!!
Hey I wasn't defending Nebraska after all their roster could play in the National Felons League based on what I read in the newspapers (and not in the sports section). I was just answering the question posed by Lunatic Fringe in his vanity post.

Not nonsense at all. Right now, LSU is playing the best of the three, and for them it would be a virtual home game.

K-State and OU will be going to the BCS, not Texas. OU is a better team than Texas(this year.)
Dang, I hate to admit that.

So because LSU is playing very well you think that neither USC or OU want to play them in the title game? I'd imagine every last player on both teams with disagree with you .....both publicly and privately.

Is Notre Dame one of those conferences?Notre Dame is independent. They're too chicken to join the Big 10.
