Is This the Death of the BCS? Oklahoma Loses!

Posted on 12/06/2003 8:29:48 PM PST by Lunatic Fringe

I cannot see how the BCS can send Oklahoma to the national championship game if the Sooners cannot even win their Conference championship.

It's time for a playoff system!

As I said in 2001, Figure Skating is more legitimate than Division 1-A NCAA football for this simple reason: in figure skating, all of the people who are voting have eyewitnessed each individual performance. That is impossible in college football.

Heard on a Fox Sports Radio promo last night:

"What do we have in common with football refs? Even when we can't see it, we still call it."

Ouch!

Time to nuke the BCS and kill the vampire once and for all. The BCS must die.

Agreed. But I'm afraid the BCS is like the Democrats. The more wrong, wasteful, illogical and ineffective they are, the more they get elected.

"They didn't beat Cal. Which, by the way, is a team that lost to Kansas State..."

Good one.

When those ranked "quality" big 10 teams lose to teams like La Tech and UNLV AT HOME it doesn't convince me that Michigan's wins mean very much.

Like I said, of their last 7 games, 4 were against teams that are currently ranked 5, 12, 13 and 25 in the BCS rankings. That list doesn't include Wisconsin or Michigan State.

And Boise crushed Hawaii. Hence the reduction in schedule in the BCS.

Rainbows? Is this a gay team?

They are The Hawaii Rainbows, silly as it seems.

Actually, they are the Rainbow Warriors, but it's often shortened to Rainbows.

There are 64 teams invited to the NCAA basketball playoff. There are still people griping about who did and didn't get invited.

Those who are invited gripe about how they are seeded.

Given the amount of money each team will make, it will matter.

I see no reason to think that a football playoff will settle anything. Someone will win the tournament, but that someone will rarely be "The Best Team in D1 Football." That is just the nature of the game, and why undefeated regular seasons are so rare.

College football is a great sport, and will be ruined by those couch jockeys who have too much of their self esteem tied up in what a bunch of 20 year-olds accomplish on a football field.

Sorry. Since OU and K-State are in BCS bowls the Longhorns are SOL.

Too bad both OU and Texas couldn't be bumped out of the BCS. K-Sate showed that OU doesn't know how to overcome a large deficit to win. A national champion is not just a team that can run up scores on inferior opponents.

And makes the Buckeye's 14-0 season last year even more meaningful!

Just like the '98 Volunteers 13-0 season.

There is already magic in the game. Regular seasons mean something. Playoffs have destroyed the NCAA basketball, NFL, and NBA regular seasons. One regular season game means nothing in those leagues. In fact, the problem I see with the BCS is that it has lessened the meaning of any game except the Sugar Bowl.

Oh well... I will survive either way.

For anyone who hasn't heard:

By Brad Edwards

Special to ESPN.com

It might be the toughest ticket in the history of college football, and the party scene might be second only to Mardi Gras.

Oklahoma (12-1) and LSU (12-1) will be No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, when the final BCS Standings are released today (5:30 ET, ABC). This means the Sooners and Tigers will square off for the national title in the Nokia Sugar Bowl on Jan. 4 in New Orleans

I'm sure USC fans are livid right now.

USC fans have been livid since last night. However, we are secure in the knowledge that for the second straight year we have the best team at the end of the season. Looking forward to being the writer's poll National Champs for 2003.
