Is This the Death of the BCS? Oklahoma Loses!
Posted on 12/06/2003 8:29:48 PM PST by Lunatic Fringe
I cannot see how the BCS can send Oklahoma to the national championship game if the Sooners cannot even win their Conference championship.
It's time for a playoff system!

And one of the best days in recent NFL history is tomorrow, complete with a snowstorm at one or more key games.

What is really hilarious is that by Bitchslapping Georgia LSU probably screwed themselves out of a chance for the National Championship. it is pretty certain georgia will drop out of the top 10 and that will cost LSU the quality win points they must have to jump USC.
No matter what this shows that the BCS is a total Sham ... Polls will be USC #1, LSU #2, OU #3 -- leaving 2 scenarios.
1. #1 team in both polls out of Nat Champ game. Then winner of OU-LSU MUST be Nat Champ in AP, But USC will get a split in Coaches if they win Rose Bowl.
2. LSU is #2 and not in Nat Champ. in this scenario it does not matter what LSU does. USC wins they get #1 both polls. OU beats USC they WILL jump LSU in both polls no matter what LSU does.

What I meant was that USC and OU would rather play each other in New Orleans than play LSU in New Orleans.

I don't think either USC or Oklahoma want to face the Tigerrs in New OrleansRidiculous. SC can and will beat anyone in the Nation.
They were the best team last year, as well. Remember Iowa?

Nebraska did it in 2001. Colorado scored 62 points and beat Nebraska. That defeat kicked Nebraska out of the Big 12 championship game but not the national championship game
Yes yes, were still catching flak for that. I just want everyone everywhere to know that, Yes, Everyone in Nebraska even knew that we didnt deserve to be there, but what are you going to do?

I think any of the above teams will be happy just to make it to the title game, and couldn't care less about who their opponent is. The system is screwed beyond belief.

Actually, that's wrong. BCS was designed for when there wasn't a clear cut #1 and #2, or when the Rose Bowl screwed things up like they did in 1992 (?) when PSU went undefeated, played in the Rose, and Nebraska won the MNC.
It's very likely in this case that #1 and #2 (USC and LSU, assuming OU drops to at least #3, which is probable) will not play for a MNC. That is just flat out wrong.

6 of USC's last 7 opponents were below average teams. In addition to the 3 ranked teams you see on that schedule for LSU, Arkansas is pretty good, and an argument can be made that in spite of their struggles, Alabama is not a pushover.

No disrespect towards the Tigers...I just want the Trojans in the big game.
I believe they deserve it, they have the longest winning streak of the one loss teams.
Yet ESPN is saying OU vs. LSU.
Good luck to LSU.

That's why I love Husker fans. They know football. I sat in their section at the Citrus Bowl when Georgia Tech waylayed them up and down the field. Nebraska fans know their football and that's why I respect them.
