So, we did the right thing by holding out on the kids vaccines as long as possible. I wonder if annual flu shots cause any problems?

"I wonder if annual flu shots cause any problems?"
Absolutely. If you have children with respiratory problems they may well die if they don't have a flu shot.

The risk of death certainly outweighs the risk of mild mental problems.
I was actually thinking about healthy people getting flu shots so that they don't miss work or have to deal with the discomfort of being ill.

I'm not sure which way you mean that. Getting the shot to prevent missing work or getting the shot (as wrongly held by some) and missing work because the shot makes you sick.
Getting vaccinated, of course, won't make you sick unless, possibly, it is the new spray vaccine, which is a live virus.

The risk of death is preferable to the risk of mental problems.
You have no idea of the damage autism causes or you would accept that some fates are worse than death and would absolutely accept that as parents, we should have the right to decide these issues for our own children.

I agree.
Here is a clip from the Seattle Times:
Doctors hope the inhaled vaccine will sharply increase the number of healthy people who seek flu immunization, potentially preventing some of the 114,000 hospitalizations and 36,000 deaths a year from the disease.

Spoken like a person who does not have a child with mysterious "mild mental problems". Really, you have no idea, none at all. I had your cavalier attitude with my first child and then my second mysteriously started developing these problems *gasp* after his 12 month old round of shots. I'd love to show you pictures of a smiling, attentive baby at 9 months and a virtual zombie at a year old. Vaccines have nothing to do with it--yeah right! At almost 4, my son is only now starting to say words a little more sporadically, pay attention to warning signs, etc. He starts a special preschool in a week which YOU and I and every taxpayer get to pay for. Your attitude is why I take NO shame in accepting these special services. If recommendations like yours help put him where he is, then you and everyone who blindly gives a nod to vaccines can help pay for his care for the rest of his life.

Rubbish, my husband got sick every year he had the flu vaccine directly AFTER receiving it. He has not had one since in about 20 years and he has not had the flu in 20 years.
Oh and I know another older man in church who has the same phenomena happen. Wrongly held my butt. Again, said with the cavalier attitude of someone who has not btdt.

Amen.
I have an autistic child and the effects of it have been widespread. In the 2 years we have suspected this, I have developed high blood pressure and we have had marital problems. It is a very stressful situation for the whole family and I am so sick of the comments of those who know nothing about the devastating affects of this.

That's a common misperception. There's no legit doctor on the planet who would agree with you. Basically a flu shot will only work against one strain of flu, so you could still get the flu, albeit a different strain. And it may not even prevent the flu the specific shot was created for, but rather lessen they symptoms.
Bottom line is, if entire populations did NOT get a flu shot the death toll each year would be astronomical. Of course, thousands of scientists, research, and history could be wrong and you could be right. Anyway, the CDC explains it better than I can:
Flu Shots
The flu shot uses an inactivated or killed vaccine. This vaccine cant give you the flu. However, flu vaccine, like other vaccines, can occasionally cause a reaction. Feeling some response to the shot is not unusual. The vaccine acts to stimulate your immune system and prepare you to resist infection. You may feel your body's protective activity through mild symptoms. Also, some people may experience symptoms of mild sickness after getting a flu shot, but these symptoms are not necessarily connected to the shot.
If you do experience a reaction to the flu shot, it is usually local and mildredness, soreness, and swelling at the site of the injection. Usually if you have this kind of reaction you find that it doesn't interfere with normal daily activity and does not make you feel sick. Fever and more generalized aches and pains can occur but are even less likely; those who are receiving the vaccine for the first time ever are most likely to have this type of reaction. You feel the symptoms, if any, within a few hours of the injection. The symptoms typically cause discomfort, not sickness, and last for a day or two.

The death rates within the US have changed exactly from what per 100,000 to what per 100,000 before and after the flu shots?
You are only interested in mobidity rates, correct?
Stats on contraction rates aren't even kept are they?

As a Mom of a child with epilepsy (JME), I have deep sympathy for your heartfelt anguish.
However, the other side of this shot/noshot debate must also be addressed.
Eight children have now died in Colorado since the season began just last month.
It makes for a tough call, and no on should take vaccines lightly.
My young asthmatic daughter got a flu shot.
I played the odds.
The odds af her dying from the flu far outweighed the chance of her being damaged by the vaccine.
Am I 100% sure it was the right thing?
No, but I played the best odds I could after looking at the latest information.

We currently have an outbreak of pertussis in Wisconsin, centered on Fon Du Lac. Over 150 cases. Children at risk for severe complications including death and severe neurologic injury. Hard to identify as presents as "cold" only distinguishable weeks latter when cough turns to "whoop". At that point too late for treatment with antibiotics.

For you getting your gal a shot makes sense. However I read that the inhaled vaccine makes the recipient
contagious for up to a month after vaccination - passing it around to all of us who do not normally get flu shots. Its a conspiracy! Get a flu shot or we'll make sure you get the flu from our "clients". ;-)

Not sure what relevance that has. You can still contract the flu, the shot will make it less severe.

Then your only interest is in morbidity rates.
In the US, mobidity in contemporary times from influenze wasn't high in the first place.
