Nope, Brethren, as in German Quaker, and old-line "abolitionist" Quaker at that - conductors & brakemen on the Underground Railroad. So we're quite familiar with the so-called theological basis for discrimination against various groups, and the many fallacies of those. In other theological matters we're so close to straight Baptist that we freely exchange emergency pastors, but there is a world of difference socially.

Probably the major difference between Brethren and our kissing cousins - Amish, Mennonites & German Baptists - is that those who object to war tend to be conscientious objectors rather than pacifists. The latter won't use force period. The former will kill people who need killing, just not under orders. Civil War draft officials in Lancaster County, Pennsylvannia, learned this the hard way.

And there are many Brethren who are neither pacifists nor CO's. See the movies, "Friendly Persuasion", starring Gary Cooper, and the more recent "Glory". One of my ancestors lost an arm in the Crater commanding a company of the 13th Colored Infantry. My uncle Virgil commanded a black MP company in WWII. Both volunteered to lead black troops.

Theologically, there is no difference between justifying slavery based on the Bible, and justifying discrimination against homosexuals based on the Bible. Ask any Brethren minister.

LOL! What happened, some of you guys forget about God declaring the latter an abomination! We have not and no power on this earth will be able to force us to forget it.
