Flights From Paris to U.S. Cancelled
MSNBC | December 24, 2003

Posted on 12/24/2003 10:41:16 AM PST by cyncooper

MSNBC just announced that three flights from Paris to the U.S. have been suddenly cancelled due to "security concerns". The first flight was scheduled to depart Paris heading for Los Angeles.

I could not find an article yet.

CNN just announced Pentagon reporter David Ensor will be on after the break with details on why the flights were cancelled.

While I despise the Crescent News Network, Ensor is pretty good.

Te anti-French comments on this thread don't add a thing to the discussion. I'm more interested in knowing why the flights were cancelled, where the intelligence came from, and how specific it was.

As a country where almost 90% of the inhabitants don't have passports, it is pretty obvious that the vast majority have almost no clue about foreign customs and culture, airport security at foreign airports, etc.

French people suck! I hate France! I am a smart person!

Why? Because the French opposed the war in Iraq, which many American conservatives opposed as well?

Substitute "Jews" for "French" or "Israel" for "France" in all these snide attacks people post, and the same posters would be shrieking about anti-semitism. A wee tad hypocritical.

France was the first country to recognize the United States of America, and aided us in our war for independence. We've fought beside them in WWI and WWII. They're prickly and snobbish, but they have great food and wine and movies and art and novels and their philosophers helped launch this country. So lighten up and lay off and be nice to French people!

Air Tahiti was the third flight cancelled, per Fox News. It was due to leave Paris and land in LAX before resuming flight on to Tahiti. The U.S. Embassy was involved.

The other two flights were Air France bound for LAX.

This decision was in conjunction with the U.S. Embassy and consultations with our people. Not the French trying to harrass U.S. citizens.

This BBC article seems to indicate that it's related to security concerns at LAX.

France-US flights halted in alert

The French Government has ordered the cancellation of several Air France flights to Los Angeles following a security alert.

The cancellations were requested by the US embassy in Paris - which mentioned fears of a terror attack, French officials said.

The services were scheduled to fly from Paris to Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The cancellations come amid a huge security operation at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Private vehicles have been banned from the terminals amid fears of a terror attack.
