Wow,
I have been in the USAF for 23 years. There was a time in 81 when I joined that we weren't allowed to wear our uniforms off base (civilians were nasty to military sometimes). It wasn't until 911 that I started to hear people say thank you. I personally have had it said to me on several occasions and it is the most wonderful thing to ever happen.
The gist of my post is this, we do not do it for thanks. We do it for many reasons. To be honest, when I first joined I did it for a job and a chance to learn a skill. I stayed for love of Country. Most do to.... The thanks we get from is the sweet icing on the cake. Thank You!!!

thanks from=thanks from you; to=too

I taught my kids to say thank you for serving our country prior to 911....namely because I want them to appreciate the sacrifices, the loss and especially you who have devoted your time to defending our freedom.
((((THANK YOU FOR SERVING OUR COUNTRY))))

I have to concur. It actually surprises me sometimes when people say "Thank You" or "Welcome Home." I get chills when that is said. We do it to serve our country; we do it because we love our country - and we love freedom. We know that "Freedom is not Free." - And we just want to do our part, giving back something of what we have received from others.
I come from a long line of military officers - 32 - going all the way back to Mary, Queen of Scotland. It is a fine tradition - would that more would understand.
