SAN JOSE, Calif. - Delegates to the California Democratic Party convention delayed a decision Sunday on whether to support Proposition 57, the statewide bond measure championed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger as the key to his economic recovery program.

The proposition, which goes before voters at the March 2 primary, would allow the state to borrow $15 billion to pay off debts which come due June 30.

If this is taxes with reprsentation
Give me taxes without representation
I much prefer a tax on tea!
Instead of everything else.

I have a feeling the Democrats are waiting to see which way the wind blows on the popularity of this proposition.

Well they do not want any programs cut, and they want to expand others.

Tax increase is what they want, but they are not sure how to get it.

They are looking for a way to get it and pin it on Arnoold!

They may go for the chaos theory, that is vote down the bond to induce hurt and fear among the population and stampede them into blaming Arnoold for the chaos and vote for a new Governor in November so that the programs can be restored!!

Bully for them. I wouldn't vote for this measure if I were there, either, and I hope he doesn't run after this term anyway. Let him face the job they elected him to do instead of shunting it onto future Californians. Let them deal with the cuts instead of postponing the decision. It's way past time politicians were forced to make decisions instead of letting them blame the electorate for their complete wussiness.

I plan on voting against the measure. Didn't vote for Arnold the first time around and wouldn't do so again.

Last month, legislators of both parties voted narrowly to place the measure on the ballot.

Actually, the vote was along party-lines in the state Senate, with the Democrats voting overwhelmingly for it and just enough (two) Republicans to pass it (by one vote). Like the budget bills, placing Prop 57 on the ballot required a 2/3 vote.
