Police say they don't know why parents insist on keeping loaded guns in unlocked drawers or on shelves and tabletops at home.

But beginning this fall, Apache Junction police hope to get the message about gun safety out to parents with a voice they may be willing to listen to: their own child.

I seem to recall that the last kid in Oregon that accidentally shot a sibling with his parents' gun was a cop's kid.

Seems to me that the police ought to stick to enforcing laws and leave the indoctrination to the professionals...our public school teachers.

We live in a society built on fear. One incident happens someplace and it gets fueled. There's a fear factor of what could happen here.

Oh, now that is rich. Like they aren't capitalizing on the fear factor of "something that happened someplace"!

Statistically, which do you think happens more often, burglary and home invasions or accidents with children and loaded guns left lying around? (I'm betting the former, by a lot). So whose fear is well-founded, and whose paranoia?

Somehow, I don't get any warm fuzzies knowing the police are asking if there are guns in my house, no matter how I might handle them.

No, he's serious. He writes a regular column every week for the Scottsdale Republic.

My apologies. I had John Scudder on the brain as I just posted an idiotic piece in which he wrote about how wonderful public schools are.

If I lived in AJ, I'd want a gun at my fingertips.

Sadly, it's not. We are witnessing the feminization and soccer-mummification of America.
Given a choice between their child never having the flu again, or being sold into slavery, most moms would chose the latter. That's just the way it is.

This is the first time I've heard a cop say, 'Don't worry-it probably won't happen to you.'
Someone should point out to him how many guns are in homes which never have accidental shootings-he could've made exactly the same remark about guns in homes.

People think, "It's my right,"

I wonder why they think that? Could it be something about our Constitution? Dingbats like this are destroying our Republic. This program is very scary and worthy of all parents attention. It might even warrant removal of the children from the indoctrination center known as a school.

IF WE HAVE GUNS IN OUR HOME AREN'T THEY REGISTURED ..AND DON'T WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS? PARENTS SHOULD TAKE RESPONCIBLITY AND TEACH THERE CHILDREN NOT TO PLAY WITH LOADED GUNS.
