Good analogy!
But I have a bit of hope and optimism... because the establishment in the Republican/Conservative universe does catch on eventually.
I remember working for Howard in the early days of the recall. Outside of McClintock, Shawn Steel, Melanie Morgan, Ted Costa, Eric Hogue, Roger Hedgecock and Lew Uhler it was T O U G H getting people motivated.
Gradually, little by little people started coming on board.
By the time that Issa came in with $1.7 million things were superheated and EVERYONE tried to pretend they were there all along.
I think if Howard can win and if Maddox and Oller can win (two local races where immigration has emerged) then I think GOP leaders will try to co-opt the message and say "yeah, we Californians live this experience uniquely and understand that rewarding people for breaking the law is wrong. Amnesty is wrong. Drivers licenses are wrong."
They'll pretend they were with us all along!

Oh, don't mind some of the simplistic approaches some on this forum take.
Anyone who disagrees with anything whether President Bush is positing something as a ruse to trap the dems or snooker them out of their issues or for real is a Bush hater, don'tcha know.

Well said. In fact Kaloogian has bent over backwards to praise the president for where he DOES agree with him.
Time Magazine reported that the President's current proposal came from Vincente Fox who first raised the plan with Bush when he was Governor of Texas.
Bush would be much better served by listening to Kaloogian - as a Republican Senator from California, than Vincente Fox.

Tancredo/McClintock in 2008 :-\
Oh , that's right. Tom will be CA Gov then and be cleaning up the mess in this state and enacting true reform after we get taken to the cleaners by the demRats for 3 more years.
There. That should get the crowd going. ;-}

These people surely know or maybe not come to think of it that this vast uncounted mass of humanity historically migrated here to get what liberals always promise to the ignorant masses with no thought or regard as to how all these freebies have to be paid for. Unless the Congress is held by Conservatives and we can finally refuse the "FREE LUNCH" to non Contributors the battle will surely be lost forever to the liberal hordes banging on the Gates! The Senate and House must be retained and increased with Conservative Representatives. Nothing should be left to chance Impeach If necessary all who fall outside of the changes needed to reform our Government!

A good man. I'm impressed - and I think on this issue alone he could unseat our uberliberal Senator Barbara Boxer in November. GO HOWARD!!!!

And Oberweis brings up the subject of illegal immigration without being asked. Most politicians won't do this. This guy is for real!
To: Reaganwuzthebest
Wanting our borders closed and laws enforced is a "far right" position?
Suddenly we're "fringers," "extremists" and "Bushbashers."
Nevermind that the LAWS of the land are on OUR side. Never mind that the politicians are ignoring us.
THIS AIN'T GOING AWAY! Republican leaders had better start paying attention or they'll be out of a job!
You go Howard!

No. Tancredo has already compromised and come out with his own guest worker program. If he's willing to compromise already, how much more would he bend if elected. No way. I want someone who unapologetically stands with us on this issue. No more spineless, irrelevant puppets in office.
