The latest uncovering of the Nuclear Bazaar that was going on between the "Axis of Evil" members and others in the Middle East and the Horn of Africa has completely legitimized President Bush's remarks in his 2002 SOTU address when he warned of these gathering dangers that we are facing. Quietly behind the scenes he has lead the fight against our enemies and has never taken credit for what he and his team has been able to accomplish since September 11th, 2001.

Nuff written, and written very well. What more is there to debate, really?

I'm not a Democrat at all. I simply have a hard time taking the whole "weapons of mass destruction" argument seriously when I predicted from the beginning that nothing would be found in Iraq. I'm not just venting this administration, mind you -- the first time I knew the phrase "weapons of mass destruction" was nothing more than a catch-phrase in a propaganda campaign was when Bill Clinton used it to justify one of the numerous aerial assaults against Iraq during his term in office.

You ignore the decimation of intelligence capabilities under clinton . . .

George Tenet is still the CIA Director. This administration pretty much gave up any credibility to complain about the last administration when it kept him on board.

. . . and that Iraq was a very closed society.

Actually, Iraq was one of the most open societies in the Middle East before the U.S. went to war against it.

Yes, I can. And I remember enough about it to be confused as hell about how the United States could possibly keep a straight face while waging a "war on terror" without first sacking the bureaucrats in every Federal agency whose gross incompetence made 9/11 possible.

I have read the Kay Report and what I gather from it is this.... Saddam was aware of how easy it would be to get caught producing large amounts of Chemical and Biological Weapons for stockpiling them, and the risk of having them discovered and destroyed. I believe he buried the existing stockpiles in Iraq, or shipped them to Syria for burial, as he kept all the Scientist and Laboratories necessary to quickly produce those weapons on a moments notice. The Kay report details this conclusion quite graphically IMHO.

But the Kay report does not explain what happened to the unaccounted for WMD's pre 1998. and I've already posted my belief on where they are

I believe they had good intelligence on the scud missiles.(ie surveillance photos) I wonder what happened to them? Were they buried like the aircraft?

That is a good question, Much like the question of what happened to the ships spotted leaving Iraq shortly before the War started, another question is why hasn't more been said about the French Missiles found in Iraq which were dated March of 2003?

My gut feeling is that much like George W. Bush's September 12th, 2002 speech to the U.N., he will lay out the case against those who were aiding Saddam and the weapons we found. Those who underestimate this president and the powerful people he assembled to serve in his Cabinet are making a serious mistake.

Tell that to all the inspectors that actually found the weapons.
Tell that to the recent teams that found the underground labs for nuclear weapons that nobody knew he had until after the war.

As to your last point do you think it smart to gut the government while at the same time going to war?
As to Tenet and not complaining about the previous admin.
I don't think I have heard Bush complain about that at all.
He has too much class to blame things on someone else.
He is in charge now and accepts whatever problems.
You can't rebuild huge agencies overnight war or no war.
So if Bush gives Tenet orders to accomplich things are you saying that he wouldn't because clinton used to be president? You make no sense at all.

America closed down the Pakistani-based "nuclear supermarket" by confronting President Pervaiz Musharraf with "mind boggling" evidence and threatening isolation and economic sanctions, it emerged yesterday.

A high-powered American delegation met Gen Musharraf last October and demanded that he deal with Abdul Qadeer Khan, the "father" of Pakistan's nuclear bomb, who has confessed to trading atomic secrets.




Gen Musharraf: 'stunned' by the detailed evidence

The pressure on Gen Musharraf was comparable to the aftermath of September 11, when America demanded - and received - Pakistan's support against al-Qa'eda and the Taliban regime.

News of the secret confrontation helps to explain Washington's muted public response since Khan confessed last week to selling nuclear technology to the world's most radical anti-Western states. It was the biggest network for the spread of weapons of mass destruction ever uncovered, providing key technology to Iran, Libya and North Korea.

Richard Armitage, the US deputy secretary of state, met Gen Musharraf at his official residence in Rawalpindi on Oct 6 last year. Mr Armitage came armed with evidence compiled by the CIA and MI6.

Gen Musharraf was "stunned" by the detail. Khan's meetings with dealers in controlled weapons technology had all been tracked. Bank accounts holding payments made for nuclear secrets were recorded.

The Americans had tracked every journey Khan had made outside Pakistan. A senior Pakistani official said the evidence against the scientist was "mind boggling".

The Americans increased the pressure. A few hours after Mr Armitage departed, Gen John Abizaid, the head of US Central Command, repeated the unequivocal message that action must be taken against Khan.

"We were told that failure to take action will most certainly jeopardise [Pakistan's] ties with the US and other important nations of the world," said the official. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) later confirmed the allegations by passing on evidence from inspections of nuclear facilities in Libya and Iran.

"Both the US government and the IAEA separately reminded Pakistan that its failure to pin the responsibility of proliferation activities might lead to sanctions by the US and the United Nations," another Pakistani official told The News.

Nonetheless, Gen Musharraf did not capitulate immediately. He ordered Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence agency to conduct an inquiry. When this verified many of the major American claims, he placed Khan under house arrest last November.

American concern over Khan is not new. As long ago as 2001, Gen Musharraf bowed to US demands for him to be removed as head of the Khan Research Laboratories, nerve centre of the nuclear weapons programme.

In 1998, Pakistan took delivery of long-range Nodong missiles from North Korea. These weapons, capable of carrying a nuclear warhead for 900 miles, brought almost every Indian city within range of a nuclear strike from Pakistan. Khan has since confirmed the quid pro quo for this deal: centrifuge technology for producing weapons-grade uranium.

America tracked this movement of materials and Colin Powell, the secretary of state, made his suspicions clear during a meeting with Gen Musharraf in July 2002.

Yet only the application of maximum pressure brought the downfall of Khan and the end of his nuclear smuggling ring last week.

I read that article and it's a credit to our Intel Community and their ability to infiltrate these Nuclear Proliferator's and dismantle them.

These stories will be coming week after week and there will be no ignoring them. The fact remains that we are winning this war and we have a Commander-in-Chief who is not kicking the threats we face under the rug, and any of these malcontents around here who think we need a democrat in the White House so we can have "Gridlock", are Penny wise and Pound foolish

If you look at the history of these use of the Lunatic Lefts, WMDs (WEAPONS OF MASS DISTRACTION), they use them just before we get good news like this. Or with the Yellowdcake scam last summer, just before GW's trip to Africa to start undoing 8 years of Clintoon and about 6 decades of the French $crewing the poor people of the various nations of Africa.

I agree with you one hundred percent. It is just that I have not heard them mentioned,(scud missiles) since before the war started. We have found warheads(empty) that could only be used for chemical delivery. The dims are constantly railing to have President Bush turn over his daily intel briefings to the Congressional committees, they know it is not solid ground they are walking on.!!

Can you even imagine the video footage of the Jackals on the left making public statements that were so off the Mark that they make Jason Blair look like George Washington?

The Bush Administration was quite aware of the possibility that the Iraq War would be politicized by the Democrats, and the Bush Team is not a bunch of rookies, they are all aware of the tactics used by these leftist lightweights, after all, GWB's dad was tricked into increasing taxes and it cost him the election.

I tell you the truth... Ive never been more anxious to see a general election season get started before in my life. Because I feel this President is not only out to win this election for himself, but I believe he's out to destroy the Democrat party all together. After 12 years of violating every agreement he made after the Gulf War and as a Nation who expects the world to take us seriously, we needed to remove him for the sake of our fallen soldiers whose blood was used to sign that cease fire in 1991. For that reason alone, WE DID THE RIGHT THING.. Think about this...... :-)

As President Bush says...No nation will ever doubt our word again (sorry couldn't find the actual quote).

President Bush did not lie. President Bush did not mislead us. President Bush did act in good faith to remove a threat to our country.

IMO, I don't think we had an intelligence failure. To believe that, you would have to believe the Iraqi regime outsmarted the rest of the world. Some countries believed he had the weapons and cheered him...others believed he had them and wanted them gone. It's possible that a few scientist and a couple of generals got together and conspired to lie to Saddam and he believed them ...but to make rest of the world believe their lies...not likely!

Our first President Bush did the popular thing at the time and went through the UN...we attacked Iraq but didn't take out Saddam because the UN didn't sanction it. President Clinton had attacks on American interests here and abroad...he did nothing. Now we have President George W. Bush who has faced the most devastating attack on our citizens that our country has ever faced. President Bush has stood in front of the whole world and said...'We will not falter..we will not fail'.

I'm not sure that any of them are either qualified or cleared (a really BIG problem) to investigate the source information, or the systems from which that source information was extracted.

Can they be removed if they don't pass clearance? I don't know how this part works.
