The administration rolled out its top immigration officials and several senior Republican senators yesterday to endorse publicly a guest-worker program offered by President Bush that could give legal status to the 8 million to 12 million illegal aliens now in the United States.

We're all Americans, I hate to remind you.

Not the illegals and their supporters that GWB is pandering to. The majority of the hispanics that have gotten here in the last decade want nothing to do with being "American". Do you actually consider them Americans? Where do you get that idea?

"This stuff just makes me want to vote for a third party, whoever it might be."

Bush and the GOP will not listen to conservatives unless there is real fear of loss of funds or elections. No matter how painful, we must make them believe that we will vote third party or stay home to force them to change their anti American immigration policies. Massive, unchecked illegal immigration with aliens who will not assimilate and who's primary goal is to take from America and not become Americans are a greater threat to the continued existence of this country than Al Qaeda attacks. We can weather a dozen World Trade center disasters, if we have to; but the dissolving of the US into a sea of illegal aliens with uncontrolled borders will turn us into a third world country with elites behind walls with private militias.

We are giving Bush and Rove a chance to listen. If they won't, write in Tancredo for the symbolism, even though he is not going to run or find a third party of your choice. Many say this will only elect Kerry or some other Dem, but if the country is lost, it won't matter if Bush wins or not. We must take back America or plan on it going the way of the Roman empire.

How embarassing that you posted this.

Look here Saber: I did not say that to start up a flame thrower. It's a fact! But I did not say it was enough, only that we have to give credit where credit is due. The 9/11 event alone caused most of the improvements in border security. The dissolution of the INS and the creation of HS has and will make a huge difference down the road.

These things happened and were changes made during this administration. Now they can be built upon but further improvements must be made by congress to change the laws that they operate under.

Bush cannot do much more without congress or declaring marshal law and suspending the current protections that the aliens have. It ain't rocket science, and it ain't gonna get done without some support from the people. I intend to be one of those people who help to reform it or rewrite the whole shebang. rather than hinder, inhibit and out right oppose any change through political backstabbing and rhetorical snow storms...............

Ain't been on the planet long, have you.......

That tactic only works with democrats and even then, only causes words and speeches. It never causes fundamental policy changes in a election year.

They will simply find it much easier and they will find more voters in the centrist areas of the spectrum, namely conservative democrats.

That area is a much easier target to appease than the unappeasable and rigid right wing.

All you will accomplish is to cut yourself out of the loop. This is what happened in 2000 and in previous elections.

It does not work!

Bye bye America. It was nice knowing you. A hearty thank you to the millions of baby boomers that pi$$ed it away for me. Thanks for not paying attention. Thanks for the drug culture. Thanks for being so self-centered and ignorant of your own freedom.

You can't possibly be this stupid. With the term MAP in your screen name, you don't know that we share the same continent? Psss. . .here's a little secret. EVEN CANADIANS are Americans! I guess that's a little easier to accept because of pigment and dialect?

Who's "stupid," cabron? This is a sovereign nation---has been since 1776. You know damn well that "Americans" refers to citizens of the USA, not "inhabitants of the Americas."

Take your vile race baiting and don't stop running till you cross the Rio Grande, pendejo.

If you are correct, then conservatives are the new blacks of the GOP and have no reason to support the party. We have no representation and it is time for an international version of the Free State Project. I am not willing to give up yet, but the GOP must be change or be defeated in the hope that its replacement will reflect more the will of the people. Roughly 3/4 of Americans oppose illegal alien amnesty, yet neither major party will listen to that majority. That is a prescription for change, perhaps violent change.

And to think that we only thought things would change once the GOP had control of ALL 3 houses.

We put em in power and we can damn sure take em out. I for one will be voting for someone that's not affiliated with the 2 party cartel.

Interesting thoughts on the proposals.

I remain, at best, quite skeptical. You mentioned the public doesn't trust Congress. Right and with good reason.

Any plan as complicated as what you describe can only, after the media and lobbyists and interested-party groups on all sides apply their pressure, become proceedures rife with loopholes, waivers, regional vs region concerns, slap-on-the-wrist penalties and the like.

Should the President detail such a plan and fight for it backed by a veto threat if it's watered down, I will listen.

My plan is easier: Significant prison time for hiring Illegals, no exceptions. "Ignorance of the law is no excuse."

If there are no jobs the problem will dramatically lessen. I'll pay more for my BLT.

That's a pretty radical thing to say...

Come and visit California, take a good look around, and you'll understand why many of us here feel that way.

but the GOP must be change or be defeated in the hope that its replacement will reflect more the will of the people.

You are taking yourself way too seriously!

Politics is a art and has little to do with principles.

There is a a bit less than a three year window to affect policy and then there is a election. Any deviation from policy at that point is viewed as indecision and confusion.

Bush the elder found that out on his no new taxes pledge.

Buchannon got frustrated with it and broke from the repubs and then was soundly humiliated in the election.

Single issue voters do not get a hearing during the election cycle. Single issue voters cannot effect changes in policy during this period.

bush may throw some red meat in your direction this year, but he will not change policy statements during this period.

You are wasting your breath, your vote and your time.

What is even worse is that you think a protest vote means something to the political juggernaut called the party.

It does not and only serves as a good way to elect democrats. They really appreciate the principled voters and do everything they can to slit the party.

Election time is a time to come together and vote together. We do not have to agree on principle. We must agree that the republican party must retain power and that policy can be affected during the off season.

Failure to understand this only benefits the democrats. They are united to do only one thing and that is to defeat the conservatives and erase any sign that they were ever in the White House.

They really appreciate the fact that republicans are so easy to manipulate. It is their best and most effective political weapon.

I don't think manipulation is the right word. I think it's a matter of many people refusing to be shat upon by the one they trusted.

Husband born and raised there and we have lots of family there still... thanks for thinking to educate me, though.

I still won't "understand" why you feel that way because this problem has been escalating for decades. It is ridiculous to lay the entire extent of the problem at Bush's door and additionally get outraged because he can't solve it with a quick snap of his fingers.

And after all the real examples of treason we've been watching for the last 3 years, it's pure drama-queen to call Bush a traitor because he proposes fixes that you disagree with as far as policy.

I have already pointed out that Bush had similar thoughts and comments in 1999.

I think that he did not waiver at all from his convictions. he never does.

He certainly could change his mind about some topics, but immigration is not one of them IMO.

He believes that he has a answer to some of the current problems and wants to implement them if he can.

He did not shat anyone, and to deny the good accomplishments and the leadership he has shown over that past three years over one issue is just plain wrong headed.

One can never expect aggreement on all policy aspects. It is a impossibility.

I don't expect to and have been disapointed on several fronts, but I want him to get another four years to make some of them right and I think he will.

My oh my; no wonder fewer and few people bother to vote.

No, people have principles. Politics is a game.

People don't vote largely because they have no clue who to vote for and so refuse to participate.

They refuse to allot the time and effort it takes to remain informed.

it is better really that they do not vote unless they educate themselves.

It seems all efforts to do that have thus far been fruitless.

Some areas like Minnesota and some others have exceedingly high participation. Some do not and it seems to track with education.

I wouldn't call Bush a traitor, but he is part of the problem, not the solution. He has made the problem worse by failing to provide leadership and funding to the border patrol and the old INS. He is now trying to pander for the Hispanic vote and define the problem away. This will only make the future of the US worse. We are reaching the tipping point from which there will be no return. Both the GOP and the Dems are united in their goal to erase our borders and regularize virtually anyone who comes here.
