THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST.. (A HIT OR A MISS?).. Live thread!Contrary to popular media pronouncements, the first of the commercial showing of this long awaited, landmark, and controversial film has already debuted and the misconceptions that the fate of this endeavor hangs in the balance.. That is HOGWASH.. The Passion of the Christ is on the brink of a record breaking opening, in spite of the limited available screens, and the all out, and outragous efforts on the part of the National Media's near unanimous rejection, and the Hollywood establishment roadblocks to stymie this motion picture and it's brilliant and courageous director/producer..
I just receive a call from friends that attended a church sponsored midday showing of the movie with more than 850 of their fellow flock. The collective response was "it was sobering and breathtaking, and they existed with a profound feeling of moral inadequacy".
I toyed with the idea of accepting an invitation to book a private showing at a local theater for this weekend, however after calling a few local churches to help fill the seats I discovered that all (I call 12) of the parishes and neighborhood churches had already secured their own private dates with sellout crowds.. Every one of them had sold the seats within a day of their announcements... I just may book a threater in three weeks for all of my friends and family, that wish to watch it again, and again..

Carlo,
I hope this works and that people find the movie meaningful.
NOT sure I could cope with popcorn during it, though!
My best friend is going tomorrow with her church-group. I told her "bring kleenex".
Let us know what you think when you DO see it!

Would it be possible to keep this thread near the top of Breaking News so that we don't have multiple threads with freeper reviews.

Will be watching a church showing on Sunday morning. Expecting packed house.
Feeling of moral inadequacy? Yes, I think that's the only way we can feel in light of the standard God has set - perfection. Since none can attain that, we are left to put on the robe of righteousness that Jesus takes off his back to place on us....if we will just accept that free offer.

I bought my tickets awhile ago in support of the Passion. 11 of my girlfriends are going Feb 29th, and we are very excited.
We will come back to a friends house after the movie to discuss it.
Oh, how does the movie end?

Hi carlo3b---how are you?
I bought two advance tickets for this Thursday. I NEVER go to the movies....I can't remember the last movie I saw in a theatre. Can't stand the talking, loud chewing of popcorn, etc.
I'm happy to say that although I have to travel 90 minutes to see it (that was the only one available when I bought my tickets), the movie is now playing at theatres all around me!
One thing that has bugged me is how some people are distorting what Mel said about the Holy Spirit working thru him. I think people that understand what that means KNOW that it does NOT mean that you are deserving, or special, or that you have some special communication with God. It means that God can choose to work thru the most undeserving person, a fallible, fallen person, using what talents you might have to create something transcendent. In other words, to write straight with crooked lines (a portuguese proverb).

Mel Gibson is a Catholic. Money from this film will go to build a Catholic Church, named "The Holy Family Catholic Church" which preaches their counterfeit lies in Latin...(figures). Catholics are ruled by Emotion, Maryism, the Pope, and man made figures. They put more hope and faith in "signs and wonders" than in the BIBLE. Now, if money was to go towards the service of a wrecking ball on that Church, ...then maybe I'll have more of a reason to see the film when it comes out. I hope you have a nice day too.
Now I'm going to say a Hail Mary for you.;)
P.S. Can the PASSION threads stop being hijacked by anti-Catholic bigots? If Protestants believe they can do a better job in making a film about Christ, then please go and make one. And I guarantee you that if it's good, I'd be first in line to buy a ticket.

If you are here to bash Catholics, your duration here will be quite short.
To: MasterCommie_hunter
I'm no fan of the Catholic Church, but as far as I know...neither is Gibson. I'm not so sure that his brand of Catholism accepts the "Ascension of Mary". Then again I could be wrong. If you are not "accustomed" to follow the unsaved crowd, then as a Christian you are not doing your job. We are all called to witness for Christ. Jesus kept company with lepers, tax collecters, prostitutes, and all sorts. He didn't preach to the choir...he spoke to the lost.
We should support Mel Gibson because of the message that this movie sends. Yes, he admits he gave his interpretation, but only because many of the pieces were missing. I haven't seen the film yet, but it sounds like he is doing the job that many of us Christian should be doing ...sharing the Gospel.
