What now? Conference? When does the president get to lose another 1 or 2% of his base (by signing this)? Soon?

The House will vote against it and it will be taken out in conference.

oh, then the house will take this out and the senators get their talking points, but I want those 2 repubs who voted for the extension to be punished.

Isn't this what Neal Knox said should happen so we can kill the bill? http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1088432/posts

Yes, S. 1805 is in danger of being loaded up with anti-gun amendments in the Senate. But anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows that the Senate is overloaded with anti-gunners and has been for several years. The only way to get the bill passed is to get it back to the House, where it can be cleaned up or killed.

"There are probably more than 2 Republicans who voted for this."

I'm sure there were. I hope someone posts a list of who voted Yes.

For those who are so sure this amendment will die in conference, I would not be so certain. Lots of RINOs in the House, too, and it's an issue that's bound to generate a lot of public comment.

Further, since GWB has expressed his support for an AWB extension, that may influence some house members as well.

We'll see.

Is it possible that the House will not strip it and will keep it until after November so Bush won't have to sign it until then?

When Bush came out in support of the extension on the AWB, it became a done deal. No surprise here, just more disappointment.

Used to be that treason against the constitution was punishable by death.

Every aye vote is treason, writ large.

Our politicians are so utterly corrupt, you can see why they want us disarmed.

DeLay keeps his troops in line better than Frist. This amendment won't survive the conference committee.
