Totally on the mark with this one, SoDak.

That was my comment last week, remember Tommy Dashole's re-election is at stake here. He now has a great "Pro-Gun" endorsement for SD voters on his side.

I wonder how long it will take his web site to relfect this winner in SD.

Again, great post SoDak

I just can't believe how we keep getting played in Congress. Do we not have any strategic thinkers at all? And what was the NRA smoking when they decided to praise Daschle before the bill was signed. My God, don't tip your hand til the chips are in the pot, people. Tommie took a free ride on this.

Look, the NRA is owned and operated by its lobbyists, PR firms, and other vendors that have a lot of snarky little tie-ins with NRA full-time managers. For the NRA's lobbyists, staying on the sunny side of Little Tommy is a lot more important that anything like, say, forestalling gun bans.

The actual "members" of NRA are seen at National as a bunch of chumps whose duty is to send money, and STFU, while the NRA sells off public liberties for the private gain of insiders.

In fact, for the NRA, bad legislation is good for business because it drives membership and fund-raising up.

How many of the 12 Republican Senators who support all three Democratic amendments are rated B+ or higher by the NRA? I bet at least 10. I bet five of them are A rated, and here they are voting for gun confiscation.

If you are concerned about gun rights, the NRA is not your voice in Washington. While the Daschle case is a particularly egregious one, it's a lot worse at the state and local level. Ask anybody who has fought for right to carry legislation around the country how much use the NRA was, and they'll probably ask you, "to which side?"

The NRA position was betrayed by Daschle here. Who thinks they will use that word in direct mail to South Dakotans? Nope. Direct mail is coming, but it will talk about the fight ahead and the need to spend money -- which they will beg YOU to send, and which they will spend on both sides, you can be sure about that.
