Michael Savage pointed this out three months ago. Bush's handlers have never been in touch with the middle class and now are gambling that this issue is not important.
I think this is the hottest third rail now. The Social Security problem will not matter if household income declines along with increases in bankruptcies and foreclosures by the middle class.

If Kerry were to win in November, there would be one silver lining in the clouds: these sob stories about "outsourcing" would vanish in an instant. In fact, Kerry would be held up as a "champion of economic growth" even if the unemployment rate rose to 20% after his first year in office and half of all Americans were living in cardboard boxes.

It is a "hot issue" however is it up to the government to solve? Should the government be finding jobs for people? Should the government isolate itself from trade through tariffs so people can be over paid for what they do? I don't think so.
It's up to people to regroup and find another way to make a living. Surely Americans are not stupid or helpless like liberals, or are they ? ? ? ?
