What's interesting is that ESPN is making commercials of these celebs commenting on NBA players. One of those commercials even has Samuel L. Jackson endorsing Bird as the player he'd want with the ball in his hand when time was running down. I want to see if ESPN includes all of Spike's comments in this commercial.

I was listening to the 1988 Hawks/Celtics Game 7 which came down to the most amazing two man shoot out down the stretch I have ever "witnessed". It was like everyone else was frozen with Wilkins and Bird swapping shots without missing.

It came down to who blinked first.

Dominique did....darn it.

From a google search:

May 22, 1988 Engages in classic fourth-quarter shootout with Hawks' Dominique Wilkins in Game 7 of Eastern Conference semis. Hits nine of 10 shots and scores 20 points to Wilkins' 16 in the final 12 minutes of Celtics' 118-116 win (though 'Nique finished with 47 to Bird's 34). ''The fourth quarter," McHale would say, "was like two people standing at arm's length and punching each other."
