Boggs may have been the father of Cokie Roberts, can't really remember. His aircraft was presumed to have gone down in Alaska, I think.

He is Cokie's father, and his plane went down over Alaska October 16th, 1972, never found.

I don't have a handle on his Vietnam War position. He was a member of the Waren Commission.

Killed in the plane crash with Boggs (and his aide, Don Jonz) was also Senator Nicholas Begich, Democrat from Alaska. Couldn't find Begich's views on the war. Did find that Arkancide might have a longer history than we first thought:

His flight allegedly disappeared over Alaska and was, by official reports anyway, never recovered. In an interesting side note, the young man who gave Boggs a lift to the airport that fateful day was none other than William Jefferson Clinton. (4) Small world.

Interesting thread on Cokie/Clinton connection. Clinton drove Boggs to catch the fateful plane. Cokie's mother succeeded dad Bogg in 1973-90. In '97, Clinton appointed mom Amassador to Vatican. Interesting, today Kerry tells Pope to take a flying leap. DC is such a soap opera.
