Take a look at the label of your loaf of 'healthy' whole wheat bread. Full of high fructose corn syrup, unless you buy an organic health-food store version.

I completely agree. But for us lazy Americans, going low-carb is a good first step for better health. BTW, it is so much easier for me to work out now.

Even better, my wife loves baking bread. 100% whole grain.

Of course a low-carb diet is a good way to get started, and even maintain a healthy weight.

I am completely in favor of controlling carbs and sugars over the typical low-fat diet which might include sugary foods.

But I don't think anyone can make a case against the value of consistent exercise.

Coca Cola was much better before they changed from sugar to high fructose corn syrup.

No one has ever died here where they load over 10 tons a day. If anyone was going to be over exposed to aspartame, it would be the people that make it. So you may be allergric to the stuff.

Talk to me in 20 years when you have all sorts of "mysterious" health problems. Aspartame is poison.

Another example of a government policy creating a big problem. HCFS is more difficult for the human body to break down than sugar (sugar is a natural sweetener - our body inherently knows how to break it down). As a result, HCFS will cause more obesity than sugar. The reason why HCFS is commonly used as a substitute for sugar is because it is cheaper. The reason why HCFS is cheaper than sugar is because our government subsidizes the sugar industry.

Another example of why mindless government intrusion into the free market is, almost without exception, a bad thing.

Of course, the lifestyle was different then. 3 boring TV channels. (Let's go out!) No Internet, no video games, no VCRS, no couch-potatoes. Maybe that had something to do with it.

Exactly. In those days, you spent evenings running around the neighborhood with other kids your age, playing football, basketball, baseball, hide-and-seek, tag, whatever, until your mother called you in for dinner or for bedtime. Today, kids spend their evenings staring at 200+ channels of DirecTV, surfing the Internet, playing PS2, watching DVDs, etc, etc, etc. Plus, the first thing that gets cut from public school budgets is physical education.

Another example of why mindless government intrusion..

It ain't 'mindless'...it's bought and paid for by the industry involved.

I loved Jolt too. However every time someone saw me drink one they acted as if I were going to go on some caffeine rampage. Never mind that it had about as much caffeine as a cup of coffee.

Diet Rite Cola is sweetened with Splenda. It's not too bad.

Try Splenda, it's made from sugar and tastes incredibly good. Just look for products, as I do, that contain it. More and more are popping up on the shelves everyday. And no reactions, no nasty aftertaste.
