Condoleezza Rice on 60 Minutes Live Thread [7pm EST, Sunday 3/28]
CBS News ^ | 3-28-04 | CBS News

Posted on 03/28/2004 2:57:31 PM PST by GraniteStateConservative

I was waiting for this to go up. We're about t-minus one hour from it (depending on how long Duke-Xavier goes, I guess). Too bad it's not going to be a long interview like Clarke had. I've noticed that 60 Minutes are not promoting this either. The commercial I just saw advertised the story on soccer phenom Freddy Adu, not the story on Rice or Pickering. I also discovered from the link referenced above that Rice spoke to them this morning and not yesterday as I'd heard would be the case before. Bill Kristol predicted this morning that Rice might say that if this is really such a big deal that she'll testify in public under oath as she's been badgered to do. I don't think Bill has a good track record on predicting news, so take that with a grain of salt. By the way, go Xavier-- I had Duke losing before now in my office pool bracket, but my opponents have them winning it all.

i see people here expressing what they believe is their truthful opinions on what they saw. hiding, or lying to ourselves, is not going to help.

in fact, that's how the white house gets into these problems to begin with, they delude themselves into thinking the media is going to be fair to them.

Is there any way we can pressure 60 Minutes to show the entire interview they did with Condi? If they want full disclosure from the White House, why can't we demand it from them?

Nope. No way at all.

The only thing we can do is not watch the show and let advertisers know we do not watch the show. This was the first 60 Minutes I have watched in at least 5 years.

I have a "bud" that watches the show and let's me know who the advertisers are. I love writing them letters!!

Well, the piece on Judge Pickering was better than I expected. It should be plain to anyone that the Judge is an honorable and principled man who practices what he believes he doesn't just offer lip service. I wonder if Schummer's children went to public school.

But I wonder what its true demograhpic really is these days. I wonder how much influence it really has now as opposed to say 15 years ago. I do not know but I wonder.

But if the republic is in such a shape that interviews on CBS can bring us down than we are not going to survive anyway.

Bush needs to find a way to openly take the media bias directly to the people - even make it an issue. He keeps getting handed perfect opportunities.

"Ed Bradley is presenting "persceptions and presumptions" as fact."

The one thing that really caught my attention was Ed Bradley stating as a matter of fact that there was no connection between Iraq and al-Qaeda. Condi should have blown her top when he said that. Here is Ed Bradley, national correspondent for 60 minutes, who hasn't done his homework.

Case Closed
OSAMA BIN LADEN and Saddam Hussein had an operational relationship from the early 1990s to 2003 that involved training in explosives and weapons of mass destruction, logistical support for terrorist attacks, al Qaeda training camps and safe haven in Iraq, and Iraqi financial support for al Qaeda--perhaps even for Mohamed Atta--according to a top secret U.S. government memorandum obtained by THE WEEKLY STANDARD. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1022083/posts

Do you remember the James Byrd commercial right before the election? The most vile political commercial in the history of presidential elections?

WHO WON?

End of story.

i understand, all I am saying is that trying to marginalize the show (as truthful as it may be), isn't going to do anything to alter its "mainstream" perception amongst most americans.

Perhaps the WH felt that Condi needed to go to the cesspool where Clarke made his allegations in order to try to appear to be willing to address the same crowd. Unintimidated and all.

As much as we'd like to have the WH set the terms for their interviews, I don't think that would play well in the long run.

We have a media in the country. Piss-poor for the most part to be sure. But ignoring their venues, their shows etc. would backfire for the admin. IMO

Doubt if they, the WH, would even be interested. I think the WH, and Condi for that matter, have much more pressing things to take care of.

However, we can email cBS with a huge amount of mail, raising hell with them in the difference in the 2 interviews, how bias the majority of Americans saw the difference in the interviews. Telling them we are well aware of cBS trying to influence the upcoming election, so cBS liberal-left socialist party would reign again in the WH and DC.

I know most people probably turned it off in anger, but the story on Pickering was really great. Schumer looked like the hugest idiot, and so did the NAACP.

I agree .. it was a pretty good piece on Judge Pickering

Yes, she goes on a 6 week book tour then she will be commuting back and forth to TX weekly. Her husband and son will remain in iTX. She'll travel with the President and Rove will look after things on the ground. LOL

Come back in two hours, after you've viewed in on the left coast, and give us the benefit of your opinion then.

Didn't see the interview, but from reading the posts, I'm a little surprised the White House didn't push for a live interview with Rice, so the CBS editors couldn't do their hatchet job. IIRC, the Clinton's famous 60 minutes interview in '92 was live.

That would be true if those Americans that watch the show actually read my post. I doubt that. Too bad, if most Americans were reading the posts here, we might have a much better country.

No one should hide or lie.

But, was this the first time anyone has watched 60 Minutes? How long does it take to understand what that show is all about? Are we stupid? I think we need to get control of our expectations.
