All I know is that my aunt shot and killed her sleeping husband and 6 year old daughter before shooting herself while suffering from ppd (or pp psychosis), and she only mentioned to my grandmother that she was feeling a little down in passing. (She did not kill her 3 month old son.) No one had any clue she was about to do what she did. This happened in l968, so there was not as much known about ppd then. However, there can be little warning as evidenced by my aunt.

In this stoning case, I think the youngest son is around 2? So ppd wouldn't be a factor anyway, right?

From the other thread:

"Another revelation Tuesday came when Smith County District Attorney Matt Bingham alluded to the deeply religious Pentecostal woman having had an affair. Bingham asked Dietz whether he knew Laney had failed to mention the affair to another doctor who evaluated her."

You know if opportunistic women can use mental illness as an excuse to commit crimes, then surely people can use women's mental health as an excuse for sexism.

Yes --- it seems if every time a woman murders it's just because she went crazy --- but a man is held responsible for his murders because he doesn't have the same tendency to go crazy, then why should child be awarded to mothers in child custody battles?

This case opens a can of worms.

And those worms from that can came from the apple that Eve ate in the Garden of Eden, oh so long ago.

I say "Back to the Future" and repeal the 19th. Amendment; women's suffrage. Things may not improve above human nature, but at least it won't have the Constitution's seal of approval.

Feminists, the family court system, news media, psychologists and law enforcement have all played into the public perception that mom = good, dad = bad. How else does one explain how a married father can go from a parent to a visitor in over 90% of all cases of divorce?

With that said, I do not believe women are inherently evil or even that the vast majority of women have the ability to kill their children (leave abortion out of the equation).

The fact remains that women do kill children at a high rate then guns, gangs, fathers and strangers. Once people realize that is the case, the pity some may feel for women like Andrea Yates, Susan Smith and this piece of garbage leaves and they see a childs killing for what it really is. Not a sickness, but cold blooded murder.

That's what I think too. She certainly expressed her relief at the verdict.

She was evidently deemed sane enough to stand trial. If I had committed these terrible acts during some sort of psychotic episode, then when I was sane, I would have had so much guilt that I would have pled guilty and not gone to trial. She seems to be sane enough to worry about her own well-being.

Just humanely put to death all murderers and set free all who acted in self-defense.

What would you do with someone who mistakenly (but honestly) believed they were acting in self defense?
