My poor little Simba is down to 4lbs. he is twelve. He had a bad ear mite infection and this caused him to stop eating. He is doing better now, Dr. wants him at 6lbs.

shiver...
Miss Kitty had the same thing.
Mr. Mabelkitty "thought" she had ear mites and gave her some over the counter treatment. She stopped eating and was ill. We did take her to the vet the very same day (or next) because she was especially loving and affectionate - that is odd behavior for her.
The vet told us that she didn't have ear mites, but she did have a problem from not eating, and the reason she stopped eating was because the medicine for the ears so overpowered her sense of smell she couldn't eat. Cats need their sense of smell or they wont't eat.
She was in kitty ICU, but came out of it after a week. We no longer use any type of remedies on her at all - she is an indoor animal. And if we do, we get it from the vet - no place else.
I bought the stinky canned cat food and mixed it in with her good dry stuff until she started eating okay.
We also never ever serve her any milk products - that isn't good for them either.
