These are my type of people--God bless the Kurds. I feel terrible for them that they have had to put up with the arab a-holes for so long. They do appear to be smiling more in their more recent photos, now that you mention it.
We haven't seen very many photos of happy Iraqis, not when they were freed from their oppression, not when Uday and Qusay were eliminated, not when Saddam was captured and removed as a threat to their future. Somehow, it seems more rewarding to make the Kurds happy, and that also appears to be an easier task.
Maybe they're the REAL future of Iraq.

Ask the Armenians about the Turkish idea of respect for human rights.
You are correct. You don't hear much about the holocaust inflicted on the Armenian population by the Ottoman Empire.

BEAUTIFUL!!! Go Kurds.
What the US has done for the Kurds is a GREAT Historical right after at least a century of Kurds getting screwed by every neighboring and colonial power and yes, even the US.
If libs ever had functioning rational brains, they would celebrate in the glory of a virtually independent Kurdistan that the USA has midwifed.

>>vWe started training these guys what? 2 or 3 years ago?
Actually, right after the first GulfWar.
Bob Baer's book, among others, backs that up.
It was one of the relatively good things done during that administration, albeit an extension of what BushOne had begun.

>>>You know that the Peshmerga have a woman's unit made up of nothing but widows of those killed by the Iraqis? Looks like it might be payback time shortly....
Dio had a great pictorial from over a year ago of Kurdish women soldiers/snipers.
Manicures, pink nailpolish and machineguns.
Calendars, anyone?

Remember Halabja! Revenge is a dish best tasted cold.
And to the "let God sort them out" brigade, remember the Kurds are muslims.

I say screw the Turks if they don't like it! They probably didn't like the idea of a Greek homeland either.

In Iraq --- it seems that the Kurds are the MOST reliable friends. I hope we don't screw these people again.
To: LoudRepublicangirl
The problem is the Turks don't want the Kurds to have their own country in that part of Iraq so close to the Turkish border.Their problem is with the 20% of the Turkish population that is Kurdish.
I'd like to think that could be overcome but I don't think we've ever tried real hard.
The Cold War's over. We shouldn't have to kiss the Turks butts anymore.

The KURDS deserve a better deal than we have given them! I was over joyed when I found out the Kurds had been allowed to join our men! I would like to see Iraq divided and the Kurds given the whole portion of Northern Iraq! The deserve it and so do the Shi'tes!
The minute the Kurds joined in the insurgents started screaming for a ceasefire! The Islamic clerics started begging the insurgents to let hostages go! And, the Syrians stepped up their raiding and terrorizing the Kurds in their villages, including kipnapping and torturing the young boy Kurds.
