I have my dad's old army issue Colt, from WWII. It shoots just fine, thank you, and I consider it a treasure, but I suppose it's less accurate than the Kimber, from what I just read.

I have Granddad's M1911, Dad's M/14 Norwegian Colt .45 with assorted GI parts, and the Remington Rand M1911A1 that came my way when its previous user no longer needed it, or anything else of this world. More recently I've developed a taste for the Argentine M27 DGFM versions produced on Colt machinery in Argentina, exhibiting the beautiful cut checkering on hammer, trigger magazine catch, slide stop and mainspring housing quiickly ababdoned on military .45s once the press of wartime production began.

And tomorrow's a birthday for a next generation of our family to be so served. He may come to prefer something more modern, or not, but he'll have the exposure and experience to make up his mind about that knowledgably. I've had a double-row magazine Kimber and was less than thrilled with it. But their rendition of the original design could well be a winner.

The latest 1911 from SIG is a champion too, I heard. I believe it is the Sig 1911 GSR
