there are so many good posts here; I just can't keep up. But as for this:

"when President Bush first talked about the WOT and said it was the call of our generation that it resonated with the people and wish he'd use it more often."

I agree. People feel inspired when they are asked to answer a call.

On Good Morning America this am (I never watch it but for some reason my husband had the channel on when I came down), they had a report about the Wisconsin woman killed in Iraq, the one with the two sisters also serving. They showed a family video from last Christmas; two of the sisters (including the killed soldier) said that they were serving because they wanted to give back something to their country that has "given us so, so much." The girls had their eyes closed; it was obvious they meant it with every bone in their bodies. It was very moving.

So, many young Americans are answering that call. I agree--the language should be used, and used often. It is very stirring.

Uh, didn't you see the clip of the sisters, where the one who got killed said she loved her country a couple times, but kept qualifying it by saying, "but not my government"? That was from the home video taken just prior to her going to Iraq.
